My memory fails me here, but the part where he drove Sam away, was it in the book? I do remember they somehow got separated, Sam took over the ring and and sting and wanted to complete the mission when he thought Frodo was dead.

Yeah, AFAIK, it's not in the book.
The other thing i notice, the one gollum attack is Sam, not Frodo as in the movie. And yes, Sam took the ring after frodo got attacked by shelob and he thought Frodo was dead.

Like what Vilya had said, Gandalf was an equivalent to an arch angel who came down to Middle Earth. Amongst the wizards, he was regarded as #2 even though there were a total of 6 (someone please confirmed). After Saruman had been corrupted by Sauron, Gandalf, when he slewed the Balrog (which BTW is at the same "level" as Gandalf), died and got reincarnated as the top of his Order. That is why 1) he became "the white" and 2) did not die

As for why, all ring bearers had to leave middle earth as the time of mundanes has arrived. No magic will remain, not even Samwise Gamgee who will eventually go off the same way, as as with Legolas and Gimli...

Yes, the Wizards were spiritual beings sent to Middle-earth by the 'Valar' in human form as Messengers to help in the struggle against Sauron...Their mission was to organize the resistance and to inspire the peoples of Middle-earth to help themselves, not to do the job for them.

It was said that there were five wizards in the Order, but only three came into the story:
* Saruman ('Man of Skill') the White, (Curunir 'Man of Skill')
* Gandalf ('Elf of the wand') the Grey, (Mithrandir 'Grey Pilgrim')
* Radagast the Red (Aiwendel 'tender of beasts')
* Alatar and Pallando the blue

I would have liked to see Radagast in the movie, it is said that the eagles were sent by him.

If you read the book, every step that Frodo took towards Mordor, the ring felt heavier and became an almost unbearable burden. He was almost completely consumed by the ring, so you can't really blame the poor guy. Tolkien also hinted that there is a mysterious enduring quality of hobbits, which probably help Frodo complete his task, any lesser being who not have succeeded.

Correct. They are not allowed to rival Sauron in power even though they could. They too are at the same "level". Only Saruman and Gandalf had any major influence in the story so Jackson cut the others out.

BTW, the corruption of Saruman took place even before "The Hobbit" took place.

In the book, yes, Gwaihir was sent by Radagast, not Gandalf getting the bat to call them. It was a very fortunate coincidence that the eagle came along.

Two requests: 1) Anyone has a large picture of just the eye of Sauron (you know which one) for a wallpaper and 2) what is the name of Sauron's sifu? I just can't recollect it at the moment... :sweat: getting old... :sweat:
