Local Pentax Pricing for K5IIs (and cameras) - We need better

Yes, if the community cannot even find it in their hearts to help each other get a good price... Everything is about $ $ $... Then we don't deserve to cry about a private company, whose primary objective is $ $ $, milking us as much as it can.

I do believe that many here are better than that. :)

i used to request technogadgets to bring in grey sets for me. i got my sigma 10-20mm there. around 600 plus. first hand.
pretty acceptable pricing for me...

the price is ridicules .... thats low for a Kiis ... are they dumping stock for the next model already .... lol

i could totally own a 300 DA* for $1.5k .... lol

If you go to the site, it is the daily difference in the rate.

Bundled with a useless Sigma lens.

That is a huge profit margin.

If users do an online saturation dispersion of information of where to buy, it may hurt the distributor APDS.

friends of mine always afraid of warranty thing, I told them they can get local grey set K30+18-135WR for less than 1100 sgd. but they still go for Canon 650D with 18-55 kit lens for 1150 sgd, reason being it is touch screen.

so if no warranty but got touch screen, they will buy? :bsmilie:

Of course we will do no such thing ........ we only come to this forum to kaopei ........

It's back to $974.19 today . . .

Still cheaper though.

I had bought Q10 two lens kit from Amazon Japan and shipped to Singapore via VPost, I think VPost is OK, it is tracked online or with iPhone App now.
Q10 lithium ion battery was with package, as long as the battery is not inserted in the camera or device if I am not wrong.

VPost is OK, my experience . There was another guy who bought using VPost as well, he PM me and I went through the process with him and the address in Japanese was having some problem being entered on the Amazon .co.jp website form.

Day1- Ordered amazon.co.jp, waited 1 week before Amazon.co delivered to Japan address.
Day 8- Day 11- VPost need 3 days to acknowledge online that they received the goods at Japan address.
Day 12- I go online and paid for Processing fee+freight+GST+if you like insurance from VPost as well.
( If you have a few items from different retailer in Japan, you have to wait for all items to arrive at Japan address, then you process one time together and VPost charge you one time processing fee regardless of items, and you only pay GST for item above S$400, so lets say you bought Q10 at S$684 and you buy GRDIV as a separate order which cost less than S$400, you don't need to pay for GST on the GRDIV, regardless as long as each item pr Invoice is less than S$400- no GST)
Day 13- VPost acknowledge received payment and goods shipped,
Day 18- I received goods at front door.

Happy Shopping!

Here my question, if one of the item I bought is below $400, so I need to check out this item & pay separately to avoid GST ? In this case I'll have 2 invoices right? I was thinking if i bought few items with this Janpan webstore, would they pack
all items together in a big box or separate boxes. As i'd be paying more for shipping cost for bigger box. Thank you.

u have to calculate and determine if it is cheaper to break up the shipment or to pay GST. don't be surprised that u may pay more if u ship separate.

as far as SG is concerned, as long as the item + shipping is below SGD$400, no GST needs to be paid. once its over $400, u have to pay 7% GST.

to illustrate: if items (475) + shipping (25) costs $500 in all, GST is $35. Total amount payable (item + taxes) is $535.

to avoid GST, u break up the invoice and ship in 2 different shipment:

- Box 1: 250 + shipping (20) = 270
- Box 2: 225 + shipping (20) = 245

Total: $515. Savings: $20.

This only works if shipping is cheap. if shipping is expensive, u will end up paying more and incurring additional hassle for yourself.

In my experience, overseas shipping charges are usually not so cheap and there were times when i willingly paid GST cos breaking it up costs more.

Hi detritus,
Thks for explaining all these shipping terms to me . It seems like per invoice shipment is the better option.
I may pull the trigger to buy the K5II or K5IIs, as i read from CNN news that the yen has devaluated 27% over the
pass 6 months. I think is a good time to buy now.:)

Hi pentaxian,
Has anyone bought the K5IIs from Japan yet?

Agree.
Which is why its in distro's interest to give better pricing.

Pentax cameras (as I've also mentioned in my K30 review) gives the features that help the photographer in real image making.
They have less emphasis on fancy false 'value add' specs and features (ie. Wifi, touch screen, more megapix) that are used to pull in unknowing new users.

So a lot weights against Pentax in SGP.
Brand - not as well known (very impt for the crowd following layman to buy in)
Fancy gimmick features - less (but solid photo taking cameras)

So add to this, poor price or no local warranty support if its a grey set.
Its just adds to the uphill task of making Pentax a more well known name here.
