The results maybe not going in his favour but RH has done many things right.
Look at the renewed optimism amongst fans and players (except the love sick idiot). The tactics and the way players are playing is now so much more positive and enjoyable to watch.

I didnt watch the Valencia match but the way RH handled the Gooners match was just absolutely pleasing. 1 man down, scored an early goal in the 2nd half and yet there was no hint or instructions to tell the players to sit back and soak up the pressure.

I think he understood the power of the 12th man, the Kop, and he knew he count on the Kop to motivate the players despite the 1 man disadvantage. Look at how the crowd roared when Torres came on for Ngog instead of putting in a defender or another midfielder.

Luck has not been on our side... but I believe let's all give RH some time before we dish out judgement

TRANSFER SAGA CONTINUES

Hodgson: We won't be held to ransom over Mascherano

By Soccernet staff

August 24, 2010

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has warned any club interested in Javier Mascherano that they will not be able to sign the midfielder on the cheap and insisted that the player's suitors risk missing out on him altogether if they fail to meet the Reds' valuation.

Mascherano was believed to have gone on strike on Monday after refusing to play for the Merseysiders in their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Hodgson claims it was his decision to leave the Argentina captain out but either way, his absence appears to have made Liverpool's bargaining position considerably weaker.

However, having reportedly already rejected a £12 million plus player bid from Barcelona for Mascherano, Hodgson has stressed that his club will not be held to ransom.

"Unfortunately the fee the club thinks is the correct fee and the fee we are being offered are very far apart,'' Hodgson said. "Unless that can be resolved he might be unhappy for a long time to come.

"But I have no wish to create headlines over the Mascherano situation. The discussions between Barcelona and the club are being held at high club level and as a result I don't really want to get involved in it.

"It is not the first time these things have happened and there are quite a lot of clubs suffering at the moment by their players being courted by others and their players being unhappy at being required to fulfil their contracts.

"It has happened to us now. Hopefully matters will get resolved, certainly before the end of the transfer window and I'll have a chance to pick him again, but last night would not have been a good time to select him.

"It will happen, I guess, a day when the offer for him matches our valuation, but until that day he stays with us.''

Liverpool are thought to be holding out for a figure closer to £24 million for Mascherano, with Barca's' first offer of £12 million plus former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb viewed as derisory for one of the most effective holding midfielders in the game.

MASCH BID NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH
The morning papers differ slightly over the size of Barcelona's bid for Javier Mascherano, but what is clear is that it's not enough.

The Guardian reports that Barca offered around £12.2million plus Alex Hleb and Martin Caceres for the midfielder, while The Daily Mail reckons the bid was £16million in cash.

And there are plenty of other figures mentioned by other papers, but it's pretty clear Barca need to offer rather more.

And here's Roy Hodgson to explain: "Unfortunately the fee the club thinks is the correct fee and the fee we are being offered are very far apart. Unless that can be resolved he might be unhappy for a long time to come...

"It will happen, I guess, a day when the offer for him matches our valuation, but until that day he stays with us."

LIVERPOOL IN FOR DIARRA
Incidentally, The Daily Mail claims that should Mascherano finally leave, Liverpool will make a move for Mahmadou Diarra, of Real Madrid fame.

The paper reports: 'The powerful 29-year-old is one of four players earmarked for sale by Jose Mourinho and Real had slapped a £6m price tag on him. However, it is understood they will now allow him to leave on a free transfer for the right club.'

Apparently Manchester United and Blackburn are also interested, but Liverpool is his 'preferred option'.
