I believe ibmn is being rational and is correct. There is no point arguing who deserves to be in the CL. The English FA's stand is only the top 4 will qualify for CL. One of the reason they gave is the number of matches played over the entire season and consistancy. Till now, no one, except UEFA, from the football world suggest to take Everton out because they throughly deserves it, esp they are suppose to be struggling.

It is simple. Look at Brazil, the World Champions, if they fail to qualify, they will not defend their title at WC 2006. Champions do not meant automatic qualification.

Having said that, I do feel that the Champions should be allowed to defend its title. UEFA should do something about it. The G14, which includes the much hated Real Madrid and Man Utd should be pressing the issue to UEFA. Both are president and vice president respectively in the G14.

France the defending champion auto qualify to play in World Cup 2002.
But Brazil the defending champion is no longer auto qualify to play in world Cup 2006.

Could u see that the rule is changing ?

I dun think FA should replace Liverpool for Everton...but UEFA could make a way for the Liverpool to play as defending champion rather than replace Everton as top 4 team from EPL..if they really want to...

MU, Arsenal certaionly do not want 5 english team to play in CL..coz the tv right (allocated to English teams) will then be shared by 5 rather than 4.

I will still hold my believe that UEFA will eventually make Liverpool play CL next year...Just like my believe that Liverpool could beat Juventus and Chelsea in CL. (I did write my view before the game started)

Btw....did anyone of u guys place a bet on Liverpool for the CL final ?

Singapore pool offer 1:1.19 to Liverpool @ +1.5 goals.

Juventus the champion, could not even beat Liverpool....u are crazy to think that MIlan could beat liverpool by 2 goals..

But I must admit that the return of 1:1.19 is a bit low..

Of cause the rule changed. Everyone, including the G14 wants Liverpool in. Now the reason that UEFA gave is that they cannot change rules at the last min which I and everyone thinks is a bit crappy.

Everton have worked hard but Liverpool have worked just as hard to become CL champion, beating the EPL champion, Serie A champion and runners-up along the way. Even Olympiakos is the greek champ. So theorectically Liverpool is the champion among the elite clubs. Like what RB said... use ur common sense UEFA.. Let Liverpool play...

Forget the rules. There is seriously something wrong when Champions don't get to defend their title. Change the rules.

I read it from bbc sports by one of Everton's decision makers. If i am not worng, it is Everton's chairman/CEO. It is just a little quote in an article about the CL rules. Unfortunately, i can't find the article as i forgot the article's title.

Before 25-May the final..they said they would not discuss about whether to allow Liverpool to play in next season if they managed to win CL this season but finish at 5th in EPL. They said they would talk about it after the final.

So...25-May...is the final. 26-May..everyone is celebrating and sending congratualtion message to Liverpool. The player and the manager, and the LFC management are flying back from Turkey back to Liverpool.

on 27-May to 1-June...they said now it was too late to let Liverpool in.

All are just simply talkcok ....and if it was too late then why not they discussed the matter before 25-May ? They could have made a decision but not to announce it.

I agree as well eventhough i am diehard liverpool fan.

Look at it this way, Everton deserve more than Liverpool based on league form. The rules indicated that top 4 places in the league qualifies. Liverpool have plenty of chances to catch up with everton but fail to do so. If you look at the final tally, only 3 points... i can think of the Chelsea handball incident, self destructions against Crystal Palace, Fulham and even the penultimate game against Arsenal..

Overall, this season, without a doubt we are a better team than Everton. Let's dun talk abt CL since tehy did not play. But we reach League Cup final as well and we have ten times more injuries than them. Just imagine if Cahill or Sullivan is injured? They will prob be relegated as predicted!

I think the issue is not whether rules changed or not but rather if it changes retrospectively. Imagine say liverpool finishes 4th, lose CL final. Ac finishes 5th and they say give italy 5 spots so AC can defend title. As a result, top 3 from england qualify. You think thats fair? no right?

I think the solution is very simple. Just add in a rule whereby, if the defending champion finishes out of the allocated spots in the league, they have to join the CL in the qualifiers. Fair and square.
