Liverpool fans have just get used to the fact the Owen played at Liverpool just like most workers go to work. It ain't about passion, more about performance and pay package plus prospect. Can't really blame him. That's why Robbie can be fatter and uglier, but he will always be GOD.
i agree with the first part about workers going to work. most players treat it like a job. but lfc is more than that. the fans demands the players to be as passionate about the club as they are.
owen was nutured by the academy alongside gerrard. both broke into the first team together and he seems to have forgotten his roots and who he should be grateful to.
two wrongs don't make a right.
he left us at a very bad time. he assured the fans that he will sign a new contract. but when real madrid came calling, he forgot his WORD and left us for only 8mil. why we got only 8mil for one of the world's most prolific goal-scorer? simple. he kept delaying the contract talks until he had only two seasons left. if we didn't accept real's offer, he could have walked on a bosman and pocketed all the money for himself like macca.
fowler was different. he didn't want to leave. he had a bust up with thompson. though he apologised, gh remembered the incident like an elephant and sold him on the earliest offer.
answers to your questions:
during souness period as manager, barnes was the club captain and switched from wing to central midfield. barnes left in 1997 to join dalglish at newcastle. later on, he became coach of celtic with dalglish as the director of football. mcmanaman and fowler were his proteges. today, barnes is a pundit on telly and has his own weekly football discussion show.
signed for a record 1.9mil by dalglish, beardsley join lfc from newcastle. he was a crowd favourite scoring and making plenty for others. when dalglish quit, beardsley became out of favour with souness. he quit lfc to join everton. though the fans were bemused he was not a permanent fixture in the lfc team being such a good player and provider, they forgave him. he played well and scored freely for everton but won nothing. he went back to newcastle when keegan took over as manager. he is still at newcastle as a coaching staff in their academy.
barnes won the pfa once, football writer's award twice and was inducted into the hall of fame in 2005.
beardsley was awarded the MBE in 1995.
