let guess the price of 42.5mm nocticorn and who want to get it?

Torn between this lecia 42.5mm and Olympus 40-150mm PRO, and in the end had decided on the latter (Olympus) instead as it opens up other photography opportunities with the new focal length that I am missing.

But will definitely keep this on the wishlist if Panasonic had decided to put it on the special offer like what Olympus did with its lenses these few months.
Anyone starting a thread on pictures by this lens to quench our thirst?

End of the day, it really depends on your photography needs and preference. 40-150 Pro presents great value but is not for me - too lazy to bring out big lens, and i'm not into sports or birding. 42.5 would suit my composition needs more, and i don't really need to hesitate keeping it in the bag.

There was a thread of 75/1.8 vs 42.5/1.2 here in the past , do a search for it and u will find some shared shots too.

The 42.5/1.2 is a lens which I'll cry myself to sleep if I ever sell it. Selling it probably means that I'm exiting mft for good.

Ahha yes have been advised by many against the installments. Very tempting as the option is there, but I haven't done it personally. I prefer a one-time painful wake up call

I owned both the 75 and 42.5 previously. Both are top of the line, but 75 is really neither here nor there, though advantageous in size and weight.

Being a glutton, many of my shots are taken in eateries/cafes what not. The 75's minimal focal distance is a pain! An estimate of one arm's length before it focuses can you imagine! But I really love the bokeh (which I find more to my liking due to the FL and it doesn't give strange 'cat eyes').

When I use it for outdoor events, I don't have enough reach once the subjects are past the middle of a field (may need 300 f4!). Having said that, it is actually quite handy for street as it is surprisingly stealthy without the hood.

As for the 42.5, it has a gravitational field of its own and everyone will want to walk into it on the streets/public transport. For the money paid, it is worth the quality. No regrets for my impulsive purchase! But was wondering about the warranty card that comes with the lens. Am I suppose to mail it somewhere? Don't think Panasonic has the online warranty registration for lens.

And agree with you that letting go of the 42.5 = goodbye to m43. Some pros who were m43 converts exited as quickly as they joined. They cannot stand the depth of field, even with the f1.2

Agree. Panasonic and Olympus have both came out with some excellent lens in recent years. In the end, enjoying taking photo with whichever lens that you bought after analysis is all that matters.

the best lens is one that you don't feel a chore to bring along. my 75mm no problem. my 42.5mm is the limit. and i always bring both.

any heavier than that (40-150 2.8) and it'll spend most of the time in the dry cabinet anyway, and that... is an even more expensive mistake.

Don't sell the noct, you will most probably buy it back. Why not both though? 45 is going at a good price at BnS. Can further poison yourself by trying out the lens at Olympus service centre's display set, lighting is especially good there

Nah , not pervertic, at 45/1.8's current price it's worthwhile to just buy and play with it. it's a very good lens to start with

This is because the DOF F1.2 on a m43 is F2.4 on a FF. That is the reason why I have a couple of friends shifting from m43 to A7 when it first launch. To me in photography often it's about compromise, which m43 shine in both macro and street photography, as it's much lighter and have more DoF than my FF DSLR which I used for my commercial works.

When I want to achieve a "shallower" DoF on my m43 setup, I just slap on a Speed Booster on a 50F1.8 or 85F1.8. This would give me an approx F1.2 aperture on my m43 body, at the expense of losing AF & a certain degree of micro contrast in the process. But this is at a faction of the cost of a 75F1.8 & 42.5F1.2 .

Can't agree with you more. Choosing the preferred tool and compromises for the job instead of the endless comparison between sensor sizes

The 42.5 seems to be the opposite of what m43 represents though, with its size, weight and ability to obtain shallow DOF.

For me, f2.4 achieved on the 42.5 is good enough. I tend to step down as I prefer more than an eye in focus!

With focusing aid like FP and Enlarged PiP, it make MF easier on a m43 compared to a DSLR. However having said so.. Keith's Leica 42.5F1.2 is really a wonderful lens to work with.

So I decided to take the plunge and go ahead to buy the 45mm 1.8 despite already owning the nocticron lol.. when going out to unsafe places (example, BKK, and very soon, going to Islamabad for work) or when I wanna travel lite, I'll take the 45mm.. When going out with gf or indoor shooting in SG, then the Nocticron..lol

I might do a comparison and see if the difference between the 2 justifies the ($1900-$260) premium

Don't doubt it's performance. I love the bokeh from this lens. It's value for money especially with the current cash back promotion.

lol a bit stupid to have both ah I feel.. but yeah, i guess it's like owning a toyota and a lamborghini.. both are good cars, both gets you from pt A to pt B, one is a daily driver and the other, you use only when you feel like living the life that day LOL

the only thing that bothers me is that the 45mm is made in vietnam.. so far so good though, thoroughly tested the lens before making that purchase and it looks like a sharp copy indeed.

and wow, the size difference between the 2 is HUGE
