the thing is this, for this lens u dont have to stand so far from the subject and still gets very good bokeh. while the 75mm need to stand too far for my own taste and very limited uses for it.

I understand but the price is still to high for me. With regards to bokeh, the 75mm can get better bokeh than this but the 42.5mm is just a bit sharper. I would only go for this lens if it reaches the $1.4k AUD mark.

75mm good if u r always shooting portrait, try shoot full body...u will notice u need to stand far in order to do so.

lol thats because my definition of "street photography" is taking a pic of my gf walking, posing, etc etc, in the streets or in the mall and she is not camera shy, but camera shy in public, so the distance away when I take her pic with the 42.5mm is comfortable enough for her, and it's not that far really.. 2m at most? and with the 1.2 aperture, i can finally say "when she's near, everybody else seems far away"lol

with 25mm or wider lenses, a lot of smartphones or PnS cameras are using or start with this focal length, it's wayy too common and a lot of amateurs tends to choose the widest FL of any zoom lens to shoot portrait (and I'm guilty of being one of them before), trying to get the subject + wide surrounding background, not understanding framing, so I never figured out how come my pics don't look as nice as those taken by pros, no matter how hard I try to compose the frame or how expensive my wide angle lenses were. I used to invest a lot on expensive wide angles, like the 12mm f2, 15mm f1.7, 17mm f1.8

Only recently did I realised it's everything to do with the compression effect of higher FLs, so I sold all my wide angle lenses lol

I do not agree about what you said about the 25mm focal length. I just see that the 25mm focal length is something you are not compatible with. It is just a focal length. Different people just see differently. However with regards to the topic of portraits, it is definitely easier to get better portraits if you are in the 85mm-150mm equivalent full frame focal length. There have been people who have tried portraits using 12mm but it is definitely a lot more harder to do so.

I am not arguing with the uses and the quality that the 42.5mm produces. But as what the reviews about the 42.5mm say, IF you are a professional photographer it is a MUST have lens. I am not a professional photographer so it is not a MUST have lens for me. The price point does not justify it for me. The $1.4k mark is in AUD not SGD ok :D

with the weakening japanese yen, this might happen really soon! good for you, but bad for owners who may consider selling the lens some time in the future =(

hehe. yeah. cannot justify the price.

but the Olympus 45mm f1.8 not bad too.

Can always sell yr Rolex watches to find new lenses n cams bro. Haha

Torn between this lecia 42.5mm and Olympus 40-150mm PRO, and in the end had decided on the latter (Olympus) instead as it opens up other photography opportunities with the new focal length that I am missing.

But will definitely keep this on the wishlist if Panasonic had decided to put it on the special offer like what Olympus did with its lenses these few months. :D
Anyone starting a thread on pictures by this lens to quench our thirst? :)

Don't think they will anytime soon, stocks are generally low.
Got quotes from 1.8k to 2.1k a few weeks back. Still have to pre-order!
Anyway 40-150 PRO for street seems a little big, must get a good position to 'snipe':D

Haha, just wishful thinking on my part, as I also don't expect an excellent lens of this calibre to go on sale any time sooner. Anyway, my pocket is still recovering from the last purchase. T.T

Haven't thought of using the 40-150 for street sniping. Definitely will try. :D
Actually, I am thinking more for indoor/outdoor events, sports, portrait and even a little close-up. But definitely am keeping the 42.5mm on the checklist till my wallet recovered. :)

Haha don't you already have a 12-40 for close-ups:)? Will never have enough of good lens!
But from the reviews, the 40-150 can produce fantastic close-ups too, wonder which will be better.
As for the 42.5, have you ever thought of paying through installments? Quite reasonable if you take the the 24months plan at zero interest (think it is already factored into the pricing). Can only use Maybank for 24months plan though. Total adds up to 195x.

Hmm , nothing camera related but try not to end up buying a lens through installments I guess.

There was a thread of 75/1.8 vs 42.5/1.2 here in the past , do a search for it and u will find some shared shots too.

The 42.5/1.2 is a lens which I'll cry myself to sleep if I ever sell it. Selling it probably means that I'm exiting mft for good.
