Shouldn't be a problem for you then! In that case get the 105DC first. There's one more ring to turn. Haven't you already ordered the lens?

like i said b4, i didnt order because depending on my bro's flight schedule, he may pop by japan so he can grab one for me.i hate to order, then wait 4weeks to 6 months(according to nikon).i'm quite an impatient gal.;)

Hope you'll find all the info you need and the lenses that will make you happy. (With no scarcasm intended.) If you felt i was being hypocritical and showing my true self to be of a nasty person. Then i apologise and retract my statements.

All the best in your journey into photography.

Chris Lim

i still very much appreciate your comments and advice, as well as your TLC towards my downhill in this chapter of my life.(no sarcasm intended too).
dont have to retract statements.else, no point posting.
friends ya?:)

 y do u need these 2 lenses? i mean i can understand lusting for one of these, but both?
if the intended usage is for portraiture, u can't go wrong with either lens.

most often i shoot at f2 with the 105DC unless it gets too bright then i might step down to f4.

when i check nikonians.org, some of them really own the 2 lenses!
now i'm still in dilemma after reading nikonians.org forums.
all swear by these 2 lenses.

jeanie, get a nd filter while you are at it. Many times when I was using the 85 1.2, I had to put on the ND if not shutter speeds get too high.

splut, the use of filters, especially ND ones, you will tend to lose image quality right?i remember reading somewhere.
or is it lose some colors?
i swear i read that somewhere.:dunno:

anything you put in front of your lens will degrade the quality
yes even the UV/Skylight filter

but splutter's concerns is that the shutter speed was going too high and wanted to cut the amount of light

yup.thanks for confirmation.

wonder why d200 cannot shoot at iso 25.:dunno: :)

Yes, as ortega said. But you need to know the purpose of ND. The effect from ND (by allow you to use bigger aperture and/or slower shutter speed) will be more important than the degradation of image quality.

ND is Neutral Density filter, which mean it doesn't made to change/alter colors.

Unless you pixel peep, I doubt you can see the image quality degradation by ND.

BTW, do you know the pricing of the 105mm DC locally or in Japan?

now I dunno what to get... the 105mm VR or DC or the 85mm f1.4. I am not so greedy :) I can only buy one lens...

when i was in jap 2-3 weeks ago, at bic camera shop, the 105 dc after conversion was about 1420.i dunno if we are entitled to tax rebate or whatsoever which may end up cheaper.
when i saw the ENTIRE range of nikkor lenses there, i nearly dried up with excessive drooling...

105VR?that's really not a portrait lens imho.
to me, it's either 105dc or 85 1.4
or both...if my bonus year end is good.:bsmilie: :D

u have the telecon?
can u post some pics in the nikon folder?i started a thread there about TC.
am speculating to get one too.but just cant decide 1.7x or 2x.
share share lei!
Get 1.7x better than 2x...u lose only 1.5 stops of light compare to 2 stops with the 2x TC.

i remember my idol will03 shoots with 135mm f2.
i simply love his shots.
Wah!!!! Will03 is your idol!!!! He is also my idol leh!!!

Maybe you can ask him to take you on as his "tudi"? ;)

ND filters also got good and bad ones mah. Just get the better ones that have almost no colour cast lor. You'll be surprised how much light some lenses can let in, shutter speeds at 8000 still not fast enough. Or at times you need to sync with flash at shutter speeds of 200, really need to cut a lot of light.

because the engineers tested already and the technology does not do it.
Maybe in the next 3 or 5 years the problem solved :sweatsm: . That's why D70/D70s/D50 don't have ASA100.

Regards,
Arto.

People generally want a faster sensitivity. ISO100 is just about right. You do get ISO50 for digital compacts though.. :)
