Lens to use for landscape

Keyword is MIGHT. You don't know for sure. And the fact we have not seen any photos mean we don't know also.

And... if you tell people they cannot try something because they are not ready, what are you really saying? I will say it differently... try it, try as many things as possible. if you fail, read up on why and try again... This is called the learning process.

People who do not try... are people who will not improve.

Go on... try something different for a change. You might like the feeling of taking a chance.

And btw, I hope you realize shooting more pictures in digital is free. Just in case you missed that part.

i am a person who thinks with kind of possibilities. cos i spotted TS mention about doing spot metering to achieve certain DOF and SHSP(what is SHSP?) so i figured somewhere along this line, he did something wrong hence blamed his equipments.

yup i am always trying hence i stopped not only doing landscapes, i am doing portraits, time lapse and recently macros.

but technique wise, u can say i am not so experimental. i am only experimental with new genres of photography and using my existing knowledge of techniques onto these new genres.

But who are we to tell people they cannot try? Who are we to tell them they are not ready? So what if they try something and their pictures turn out very bad? Just because we are not comfortable in doing something, doesn't mean others are the same as us. I am not ready for bungee jumping... but am I justified to tell anyone they are not ready to try it? Isn't this their own decision and not mine?

i agree with devil. For example in swimming we can say this kid is not ready to do 100m because he had not done 25m yet but in photography i dun think there is such steps to follow. It may just take a few test shots for some newbies to understand and use spot metering. Btw i m also a newbie in dslr..

TS is the type who may easily give up.

So doing the wrong way cause frustration then change equipment then still same result, give up. what i am trying to put across is to reflect his own techniques. maybe he should not use spot metering but their others (more conventional), that may suits his style more and thus improve his shots.

if u also get what i am trying to say. i am a very straight forward person, when i tell u u do it wrongly, means u can either do it again to prove me wrong or follow my advise and try another way to get things right. i dun like to beat ard the bush.

I have said what I wanted to say and put my point across.

Personally, I will not make any judgement on a person's character based on a single post on a forum. I think that would be too unfair. And I am not the type that like to force my personal beliefs and modus operandi on other people. I don't tell people what to do and how to do it if what they do is non of my business.

Back to the topic, I love my Tokina 116 so much that instead of buying a canon mount I'm just going to get an adapter as its exactly what I want for a landscape lens.

Having said that, I have gotten away with using the 18-55 and even the 50mm lenses for landscape shots. Sometimes you just have to be inventive to get what you want.

I was just wondering why does it take so long to decide the lens to use for landscape....:sweat:

TS. I have just a simple advice for you. Just go and shoot more landscape. If you find that the lens is not limiting you in anyway, then this is "your" landscape lens. It suit your style, reach, wideness, etc.
If it doesn't, first simple question to ask, is it wide enough? is it tight enough? If it isn't wide enough, then go get a wider lens (lens with a short focal length). If it is not tight enough, then go for a longer telephoto. Simple. Just go and shoot more and you will realise yourself which lens to use.
PS. Hopefully, this doesn't sound like some kind of genea advice....

This is because the photo has to somewhere in the internet to be hotlink into a forum post. hence it ask for an url.

right click on your facebook photos. then click on properties to get the url of the photo.

TS can try doing anything he wants... spot, evaluative meter, whatever. its a process of learning.

My only complaint about him is that he's blaming his kit lens for been not good enough, want to get better ones. He has not even learnt the basics, how to blame the equipment? Give him a $10,000 lens, he will still blame it for giving grainy pictures.

Any lens is good enough for anything. must master the basics and techniques first, then u can use any lens.

To TS, Are these can consider good enough for Landscape shot? If you think this are good enough, with your combo set should can do much much better than this.

Because these photos are done by Iphone 3GS and with little color adjustment from CS4.

Its not that isnt wide enough, I am not satisfied with the image quality, especially when I crop the pics of landscapes. I do take in the maximum quality output. Then, close up portraits are acceptable quality - not too bokeh though... like you would get in prime lenses.

There's some sure signs suggesting that you are unfamiliar with photographic basics. Bokeh is not something which is usually associated with landscape photography. You probably got mixed up one way or the other.

There's not much to complaint about really. When you don't know better and don't have a solution to your problems, its easier to buy more stuff hoping you'll get better at it. TS is not the first and most definitely won't be the last.
