Lens: Canon 17-40L/f4 or Sigma 17-35mm/f2.8-4 or Tamron 17-35mm/f2.8-4?

Which one do u think is better value for money?

17-40L

The lens is great! Have one and it works superbly. Pictures come out crisp at most apertures.

Maybe you can get one 2nd hand here in CS? You won't regret! :)

I had both the Canon 17-40L/F4 and Tamron 17-35/F2.8-4. I kept both for about two months before deciding to sell the Canon. The Tamron was much sharper from Centre to Edge and very good at F2.8 (at the wide end). The only gripe I have the Tamron was its tendancy to flare.

Maybe best to check what the Professional Photographers use - you might notice the difference with a better Pro-level camera body ...

any more update on the tamron 17-35?

since it is at f2.8 does it help in low light focussing compare to f4 on 17-40?

I vote for 17-40mm. It has better colour and sharpness.

have you tried the tamron 17-35? any pictures to show compare to 17-40?

so money not being an issue, which one would you get

the 17-40 or the 17-35 Tamron

pros of 17-40
- better resale value
- better built
- entry into "L" lens club :bsmilie:

pros of tamron
- just as good photo quality:dunno:
- f/2.8 very important
- lighter
- about 30% cheaper

which one would you get is money wasnt an issue although the savings would be nice

How about BOTH???? ;p

Or.... 16-35mm instead???

beautiful and sharp, no vigennetting at coners. The L quality surpasses that of tamron and sigma. My partner's sigma ex coating came off after using it -for a year. not too sure of the tamron though. but in terms of value, i think the tamron 17-35 f2.8-4 is the best valued for money among the 3.

go n surf net n c lor, tamron has a very close pic quality. If u r rich then buy l len. Up u to think. well some review say tamron 28 to 75mm f2.8 has a very close pic quality compare canon 24 to 75mm f2.8 l len and the price differ are very very big. So think think n think again be4 buy lor.

i just had a 17-40L and i'm very impressed with this lens. quite light relatively. build quality is very good and there's a rubber sealing at the lens mount. will try and post some samples later. :D

some samples from my walkaround. no extensive testing done.

Is TCW still selling the lens? Where is the shop situated exactly?

Hi,

I just bought it at TCW ard a wk ago. Yet to do a thorough test but seems to be quite sharp, almost the same as my Tamron 28-75mm. The warranty by TCW is only 3mths though
