Budget constraint, so I consider the Sigma & Tamron....
I like the sigma in term of HSM, but need some advise on the comparison of MTF tables.....from MTF tables (see link below),

sigma
http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/tests/testdetail.cfm?test_id=345
tamron
http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/tests/testdetail.cfm?test_id=366

at 17mm - Sigma is higher on the MTF table & more consistent on centre vs edge.

at 24mm - sigma edge outperform the centre (good for full-frame), tamron show better centre at wide aperture but poorer then sigma at smaller aperture. Tamron's edge is relatively very poor at wide aperture (above average fall off at wide aperature).

at 35mm - tamron outperform sigma

although the sigma & tamron outperform the canon at some apertures, the canon is consistently good across the apertures & focal length, & consistent between centre vs edge.
http://www.ephotozine.com/equipment/tests/testdetail.cfm?test_id=373

Is the difference between the centre & edge very critical?
e.g. subject not always at centre? how it affects group photos?

(using on APS-C dslr & looking for optimum performance for weddings)

The pics you attached below shows that the Canon is sharper.

from the above links, MTF for centre vs edge for Sigma is more consistent then Tamron, where the centre vs edge is quite extreme....
Dont seem to have much feedback on the sigma, anyone owned or compared the Sigma vs Tamron?:)

ah, maybe should add in the sigma 17-70 though..........the len is pretty not bad + THE EXTRA REACH.........;)

none of the above.

i using a 17-50 f2.8 tamron
