Leica M10 to be Announced?

From my understanding, if the camera or lens needs servicing back in the factory, you willl pay to pay the shipping and insurance charges for items purchased overseas. This was the policy when Leica was represented by the distributor. Since Leica has an office and service centre here, I am not sure if this still applies.

$6.9K is a very good price. There is someone advertising the ME for sale in CS for $7680!

Leica Singapore will handle it for us I think. But I Think they will still charge for shipping in some cases.

I gathered that there are many of us who liked the M9 (including myself), but I did sense a mixed sentiment towards the new M.
Perhaps several reviews after it arrived into our hands thwn we can truly determine if it will be another desirable camera.

for now, purely based on specification, the new M (type 240):

1 Full frame digital
2 optical View finder
3 High ISO
4 beyond 135mm lens
5 Focus Peaking fn
6 Liveview

Hopefully the above list can assist us to determine more if the new M is a camera that we desire.
As for me, the new M can be another M9 if I desire to have when travelling light. Yet it has the option to apply longer telephotos, zoom and macro lens from the R range with more accurate focusing with up to date technology.

I'm generally happy with the arrangement. Technically, it is possible to use M mount to F mount to even mount F mount lenses. Honestly, the new M is a good development.

If I were only a R user, the M is not a good solution. It looks more like an after thought to cater to the R users. I sold my DMR after using it for 4 years when Leica decided to end the R line. The colour from the DMR is just something I have not seen from other digital cameras. I decided to switch to the Sony A850 with its 24mpx and have been very pleased with the results. Would I want to move back to the M with my R lenses despite the fact I am also a M user? Unless the M's Belgian CMOS is far superior to the Sony sensor, I will still stick with the A850 or even move to the A99 which has Liveview. I could see that some of my landscape shots will be easier with using LV.

The Leica M is an expensive ff mirroless that accepts most mounts using adaptors. I could even use my Zeiss AF lenses with the M. Novoflex has even released an alpha to M mount adaptor. But why would I want to do this when Sony ff bodies offer better solution?

Given then fact the M has a CMOS sensor, its high ISO performance will be better than the M9/ME. For some, this is good enough to upgrade, but the Leica traditionalists will stick with using rf focusing and not use the EVF or LV.

Leica should have launched the ME or M10 with the 24mpx sensor, but without LV or EVF.

From the perspective of a camera manufacturer, ME is only a facelifted minus viewfinder frame lever M9 that continues till the Kodak sensor runs dry. Clearly ME is classified as a 'cashcow' for Leica. Leica will milk it as much as possible before EOL (end of life) for M9/ME.
Leica M (type 240) can truly be classified as Leica's 'star' that is expected to yield Leica an expansion in market growth (possibily into DSLR user mkt) and profit growth.
Hence with this business logic, Leica will not likely improve the functions of the ME from M9. If otherwise, Leica will only canebalise the Type 240 mkt share.

Honestly, screw the traditionalists. Leica needs to expand its market, and not narrow it. As the years go by, there will be fewer and fewer "traditionalists" and the company is going to die out if it doesn't watch it. It nearly did because not enough of the said traditionalists didn't stick by the company when it was on the verge of death in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Hi, Anyone has the pricelist for Leica Germany stores? I am asking my fren to buy some stuff back. Is it cheaper in Germany? Thanks.

I tried accessing the Leica Germany website but kept having issues accessing it... Thanks

Yes it is cheaper in Germany, but how much depends on whether you get VAT back and how much of it.

There needs to be both IMHO. Here in CS alone, we see many people who started from digital M and made a switch to film M.

Technically the guys switching to film mostly end up buying used Ms instead of a new MP. Heaven knows if Leica still makes M7s at all. So effectively don't contribute much to the bottomline.

Which is why they should make a new mechanical M priced below the MP. People are buying used film M because the MP is too ex, and most don't want to use the electronically controlled shutter with the M7. There can only be that many used M to go around, instead of letting camera service shop earn by servicing and repairing them why not make an "affordable"($4k-ish?) mechanical film M?

How will they make a more affordable MP when it is already the very basic of a film M? Plastic body? Removing frame selector?

That would be an interesting question to pose to Leica, or they find it beneath themselves to compete with Zeiss or Cosina.

Though honestly, I prefer the Zeiss Ikon over the film Ms, simply because they are more practical devices.

This is a M9 Black Paint. But with the depreciation of HKD against SGD, this is still a good price for a used black M9. Shuttle counts average.

There are people bringing in BRAND NEW M9 at around $6K. Check it out as well in the BNS.

Yeah, m checking wif my German counterpart in my company on some Leica Germany prices. But if they buy, still need to pay d VAT. Can they claim back the VAT if they ship over to Singapore? Hmm...

No hurry. When M10 is launched, you can grab a new M9 or even a M9P easily with adjusted price.
