In case anyone is interested to know, I got the D-Lux 4 at Funan today for just under $1,200. I know the deadline for the collection of the free case has passed, but I called up Schmidt, and they said that some dealers have actually collected the free cases before the expiry date. This means that at some stores, they can actually give you the case with the purchase of the camera because they have already collected the free cases in advance.
So if you are buying over the next few weeks, be sure to ask for the free case. You can tell whether the dealer has redeemed the free case by checking the warranty booklet. If the case has been collected by the dealer, there will be a stamp stating "Redeemed". You MUST ask, because at the store from which I purchased the camera, when I first asked if the camera came with a free case, the salesperson said "No". However, upon pressing, and repeating what Schmidt had told me, the salesperson changed tack and said that the camera came with a free case. I think they are simply preying on the unsuspecting/uninformed/uninitiated, so that they can resell the free case to other customers. I would have preferred to buy from another store with more integrity, but unfortunately, I was in the vicinity and this shop was my only option.
Also, I went to ask at Cathay at Peninsular, and the lady there told me the camera and case came in a package, priced at $1,300. When I told her the case was supposed to be free, she insisted that the deadline had passed and the two items were actually sold separately. So yup, don't be ripped off. It may only be a hundred bucks, but it's the principle of the matter. Hope all these will help someone out there.
