Bought my D Lux 4 over the weekend and went to collect my case today. The brown cases are out of stock.
Anyone intending to use neck strap with your d-lux 4? Did that neck strap go nicely with the case?
I thought the instructions that came with the case say that the neck strap that came with the camera should not be used with the case or else the case cannot be closed properly. That was why a matching wrist strap was specially given together with the case.
I own the LX3 and from a couple of posts in the Panasonic LX3's sub forum, the battery
is good for about 200 - 250 shots.
Would appreciate if you guys can let me know how's the Leica D-Lux 4?
I guess so too but just want some confirmation, a little disappointed with the batteryits the same. after all its the same camera.
Well, I just went and got myself a D-Lux 4. The beautiful brown leather case was the deciding factor for me.. and now that they are giving it away free... how to resist?
What's more my favorite dealer gave me a very good price... much better than the one Cathay Photo :sticktong gave me. So now I qualify to post in this thread, uh?
Are there any other free items like SD cards, screen protectors, etc by the way. I was so pleased with my purchase that I forgot to ask. So just walked away with the camera only.
By the way, my dealer said that Schmidt has no more stock... he was on the phone with them when I was there and was told that stock is coming in only around Christmas. So if there's any more sets on the shelves at the dealers, that's all there are. Once gone, have to wait until Christmas for new stock. Those who are interested, better chiong !
I guess so too but just want some confirmation, a little disappointed with the battery
strength.
Thanks.
The interesting thing is that I bought the d-lux 4 over the lx3 because of the beautiful brown case....silly as it sounds.
I prefer the D-Lux 4 case to the Panasonic case. Unless you plan only to use the lower case all the time, have you considered where you are going to stash the upper case when it is removed each time you want to shoot? Also, the tripod screw sticks out like a sore thumb... so ugly. The interesting thing is that I bought the d-lux 4 over the lx3 because of the beautiful brown case....silly as it sounds.
Hi there everyone,
What's the current price for this now?
and as many of you have already bought the D Lux 4, did any of you consider the Sigma DP-1 and what were your deciding factors in favour of the Leica? (other than the beautiful brown case). Kinda undecided about purchasing now as was wondering how the DP2 would pan out.
I wonder if the Titanium limited edition model is available here... very tempting
Love to hear from you guys - thanks in advance and
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I have both the Sigma DP1 and the Leica D-Lux 4.
Though they are both about the same size, under good lighting conditions, no compact P&S camera currently available can compare to the DP1 when it comes to image quality because of the difference in sensor size. It is also far less noisy than the D-Lux 4 / LX3 even at low ISO like 100.
The Sigma DP1 is however a 28mm prime lens camera and this could be restrictive to those who are used to the versatility of zoom lens P&S cameras. The lens is supersharp from centre to edge though but not that fast at f/4 minimum. The Leica lens of the D-Lux 4 and LX3 is actually not that good and can be exhibit purple fringing easily. It is just that the Venus Engine in these 2 cameras processes it away and purple fringing is therefore not visible in jpeg images out-of-camera. They are however visible if the images were shot in RAW.
Back to images quality between the DP1 and D-Lux 4...
These were taken just yesterday at the Marina Barrage with these 2 cameras (as well as the Nikon D700)....

At this size, there are probably not much obvious differences. But look at the differences of the same but full-sized images here...

I always shoot in RAW, so all these shots were taken in RAW and converted using the proprietory conversion software provided with the respective cameras. The 2 images are taken within seconds of each other. The difference in tonality is inherent in the sensor output and raw processing algorithm used. Thanks Tomcat!
I went to Pbase and looked at the pictures and viewed the standard large format as well as the pics in the original format - WOW - heaven and earth! I'll try and locate your D700 pics for comparison if there are any.
These are all jpegs? not post processed and using the in camera conversion software?
The initial impression looking at the pics you have included here were a tonal difference, and made me wonder if the shots were taken more than a few minutes apart.
The 'limited' 28mm view of the Sigma may be an issue for the normal consumer who would prefer the newer 41mm lens choice in the upcoming DP2, which hopefully comes with some improvements in software, user interface menus and speed.
I used to have a Contax T2 that I really enjoyed... that was also a fixed lens but with terrific image quality and a very bright viewfinder. I suppose you are using the optional viewfinder for the DP-1 and is it worth the extra $$$? how much was it?
For me I think I'm looking for jpegs with minimal PP.
Currently have a D300 that I'll probably sell - and use a compact for the time being as it meets my needs better.
So undecided but your pics really sway me in favour of the Sigma especially the ones from your China Zhangjiajie Tour... Its the camera man - and not the camera...
only thing is the new DP2 is coming soon so ideally like to look at that before jumping in... but new product from them will cost close to 1.5k I think...
Sigh... thanks for the very useful advice and input
