hi losheng and wootsk

tks so much for your kind help.. luckily i asked my qns here..

anyway, LF is very frightening to me.. still.. but i just wake up every morning and surf ebay ... so maybe i need to buy one to stop this stupid habit.. hahaha..

Lots of thoughts going here and there.. to buy or not to buy... even though when u think abt it, they are much cheaper than DSLR bodies and lenses... anyway some cheap deal got me into this mess again.. although i lost the bid in the last minute (less than a minute in fact, that guy really power!)

i think i will follow your advise and focus on the 150mm first and on japan lenses ( i don't want the cement to break, and then i need to go buy cement . wahahahah!)

Hey! You are most welcome! Being a fellow ebay addict - here's what I have learnt - don't rely on bidding at the last minute. Use a bidding service like Hammersnipe or Justsnipe to do the bidding for you. Or if your own machine has good uptime, you can also use a bidding software like JBidWatch. If you've found that you get beaten at the last minute, chances are that the other party is using a bidding service.

The most important reason for using a bidding service is so that you don't get caught up in the heat of competition and overbid. Once you see an item that you are interested in, determine in your head the highest amount you are willing to pay, and then set it into the bidding service. Competition can make us loose our heads.

Lastly - to save cost, I would encourage you to bid on camera sets that comes with lens and other accessories. Getting them separately is expensive, because shipping cost adds up and can easily double your cost of acquisition. So it is worthwhile to bid a little more for a complete set. Nice looking Calumet/Cambo NX or NX-II (the former is frequently preferred for their rotating back) set frequently get sold for around USD200, complete with lens, holders, and sometimes even box, and they come by very frequently. Toyo cameras, which I'm particularly fond of - because I own one - are also aplenty.

Have fun!

The idea is to know your stuff clearly and not base off some review. A good example is the sinar lens that you asked. Also, impulsive buying gets you no where. You need to be sure of what you need and have them before moving on. 1 suggestion is to complete your LF setup fully with a single 135, 150 or 210mm first.

Anyway, I am thinking of going out for a photowalk this weekend since monday is christmas holiday. But, I haven't think of where to go yet, but theme should be building.:)

this is the deal i lost: http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/150715150091?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

i bid at $150.. and i guess it must be the bidding service as it happen just seconds before it ends..

i didn't know such service exists.. tks alot for sharing..

i think i better go for Calumet/Cambo with lens.. as usd$200 to have a set to start is really a good deal for me.. been aiming for sinar f1 all this while..

i saw some calumet wide (cc 402) also.. they are old, but they don't need recessed lens board even for 47mm lens! specially designed for architecture photography..

LF shopping isn't easy really.. haha..

sfoto100,

Personally nowadays I shop more on APUG and LFF forum (need to register for 30 days before you can see the posts) Prices are generally better and some of them are very friendly.

Problem with eBay as stated above is some bidders get out of hand and over bid for some of the items. You do get lucky sometimes though!

If you happen to go overseas like Japan or HK there are some good deals too. I picked up a 75mm f/8 Fujinon for less than $100 at a camera junk store in Japan (shutter was stuck but I sent for CLA). They had a whole lot of lenses in a box!

Hey, Mamypoko - can you share with us where are these stores? I have dying to get my hands on either an affordable Fujifilm FP-1 or Polaroid 180, 185, 190. And I am hoping that I can get lucky in one of those stores!

hi

could u share with us the shops in Japan and HK?

in fact i saw alot of ebay deals being overbid at very high price.. so we should go there when we are selling.. haha..

I went recee last week at Chinatown. Took a few shots off my D700. Pretty good view from the HDB block there.
Good view of the CBD area. Ideal for 617 i think.

Street View . good for long exposure for light trails.

How about going there this Friday evening after work for a LF shoot? do it before the CNY crowd hit chinatown.

Hey guys,

The store with the junk section is at Tokyo, Nakano, 2 stops from Shinjuku. Store named Fujiya camera. There are many others, if you want I can email you the list I have. Just drop me a PM.

hi zguy

i will join u in the chinatown shoot.. so u bringing your toyo? architectural shoot leh.. :)

Finally, I am going to Arizona Tempe in January. Staying there for 4 weeks.

Now I have a problem about bringing the Toyo 45A on board to San Francisco. Not sure if I can escape the film scanning.
Going to Grand Canyon... woo hooo... but how to bring film? :(

... but how to bring film? :(

Why bring films when you can have them shipped to you from B&H? :)

Scanners for carry on luggage aren't too damaging. Just don't leave the fim in your check in bags! It's going to be cold in jan!

U want a Fuji 617 on rental? Keke

I guess you dont have to worry. I brought 20 rolls of slides and 20 rolls of B&W to SF earlier this yr all in my hand carry. Went through all the scanners and back to SG. They developed fine.

not much response so far for this friday evening,..maybe postpone to another time.

the HDB block is 20 floors high. The CDB buildings did not suffer from perspective distortions :)

Taking a break after a long trip, sorry bro.
