Seem like no fixed plan at the end of the day, I will see the sky. If sunny, I might consider going down Lower Seletar Reservoir Park for a short photowalk.

Zguy and I shoot horse in TPH.

If no sun, I stay at home do renovation (dark room)....

light was good but my ground glass is broken due to a freak accident :(
the cheapest on ebay is abt US$30. any cheaper n faster options? DIY?

no cheap option for ground glass... sorry. It is not easy to perform fine sand paper and acid wash yourself.
only expensive option is there.. haha... you can get some fresnel ones.. they seems to be very bright.

Use a translucent plastic. It might work.

I have a recesky diy tlr and it uses that.

Focusing is a pain. But if u have enough dof should be ok.

ok..thanks for the suggestions...
Making a Ground Glass Focus Screen has the DIY instructions. look quite easy if can obtain the Silicon Carbide or aluminium oxide. glass can easily get from those frame makers shops.

Zguy, I thought you said was broken last time. Didn't know it happened. :(

You have the following options:

1. Get one from me as I am changing mine. The condition is ok.

2. Buy one from Yan Ke of Shanghai, its the best one on earth. but at US$89.

3. Order from USA etc, one that is for Toyo but better focusing for F8 lenses, US$30.

(who else uses Toyo in Singapore? My revolving back is very stiff....)

You haven't felt the pain using F8 lens to focus yet.

Anyway my best suggestion is to get one off EBay. I read reviews that the 89USD ground glass actually helps in improving viewing condition to around 2 -3 stops. I never tried it before as I can still strain my eyes a bit with my current ground glass. (Patrick GG is much worst and I wonder how he make it) But if it help that much, it is petty much worth it.

If you want to try DIY for the sake of it, I might be able to help you get Al2O3, but need to check the cost of it first. Most likely the min amount is 500g so if you need very little, I wonder what you will be doing with the rest.

Brother, the YAN KE glass I had been following the thread in XiTek for over 1.5 years. They Guy has done a lot of R&D, tried on many Carmonix and now he go international.
If the Carmonix guys can see the diff, how much it can do to the Toyo/Sinar. I had been a sucker for Brightscreen but at US$300 its crazy.

The one for Toyo 45A II fits for all Toyo screen holders. I have already removed the original Fresnel (two pieces) and extremely fragile.
Its similar to the one asking US$30. I skip that. Although I don't have a F8 lens (yet), focusing on the Scheneider 90mm F6.8 can be painful when its dark.

By the way, O P is ordering 3 boxes of Shanghai 100 for me. I added one more after your SMS. We can add more.
He also suggest we try Gong Yuan 100.

i always been happy with the toyo GG til it broke. it always look bright for me @f5.6. maybe it because I use a tee shirt as my dark cloth. I wrap the back standard with the collar of the teeshirt so that no stray light hit the GG area. i remember i could focus on the far away buildings at 645am when we did the MacRitchie Reservoir shoot.

i managed to glue/tape the broken pieces together back to form a ground glass again. still can tahan for a while when while i explore the DIY ground glass way.
some quick emergency way it simple get a 4x5 clear glass and tape with with matt Scotch tape. i was thinking i could get one of those tablet screen protection stickers (in matt), it will do also. Other solutions includes frosted window film or frosted spray. haa time to visit the hardware stores.

Brother, you can either have my 45A GG (some very minor flaws at edges) or

goto Ebay:

4x5 Ground Glass Focusing Screen Linhof Toyo Horseman | eBay
Made by Gaoersi

A cheaper one is here, I do not like the quality of the guide lines.
There are other sellers offering in the US$30 range. I doubt we can do better than them, and messing around DIY in this arena is not suggested.

Ground Glass Screen for 4x5 camera Toyo Linhof Sinar | eBay

Toyo is same as the first one. Toyo Japan email quoted me US$80 without postage.

i bought some sandpaper and start grinding a 4x5 glass. too dark to see how well it will work on the cam . will try tomorrow morning.
cost : glass cutter : $8
sand paper : $2
glass : cut from an old ikea photo frame but one shop told me is $1 a piece

if it works well, then i will make one extra to keep. else back to ebay.

i started another on a lower pierce shoot this saturday evening. see any one of you interested.

Admirable ZGuy!

I want you to know that 100% of old Seagull 6X6 GG was made this way. ;)
They use red markers to make the 10mm grids.

If it is bright day light, there is no issue.
Focusing accuracy may not affect too much, since you stop down to F16 or less.

Saturday morning shoot :)

Salute to Zguy!:)
Hope it turns out to be good and bright.

solid fellow

I dunno if this makes sense or not, but why not consider frosted glass?
