Did my first LF with angmo in Amsterdam today. Many cork ups since the morning.

First we forgot to bring the 4x5 films, the bag was left in the room and had to return to take.
Then we missed the Euro train and got in really late, after 12 noon.

When bringing the box down from the train, angmo dropped it and the Sinar F fell out of the box.
I had no eyes to see.

Walking around the the DAM and the two rivers proved to be very difficult. The ground was not flat, and there were too many people.
Setting up the cam was ok, but the light conditions was chaning very fast. A 6X9 back was more desired as we only have 24 Fuji Acros shots.
The mono rail setup was slow, and we both thought a field camera was easier.

Anyway, both felt very jia lart as the distance of walking was too much , the ground was never flat.
From point to point was at least 15-20 minutes walk.

At 5pm switched over the Hasselblad and kept the LF...........

Nikkornos, sound like u have a good LF adventure...at least the Sinar survives the drop. why as the mono rail setup slow? do you mean the assembling of the front and back onto the rail? a field camera will be more portable and easier to setup i guess. Also it has less movements and that simplify things a bit.
Sound like the angmo also new to LF or the Sinar.

I guess, the moral of the story is.... don't start looking for toilet until you need one.. hahaha...

Talking about toilets, in Amsterdam you need to pay 0.5 Euro to pee pee.
Coke light is Euro 2.5 or 3. MacDonalds is 7 Euros.

Film, however, is same price as in Singapore. So are we expensive or are are they cheap? :think:

The LF outing was fun but the final part was a bit jia lart.
Weight of the setup is important.

Okay, the European girls are more independent.
They can work on their own more than the Asians for sure.

Lessons learned:

1. For all the back travel, front raise tilt, the mono rail and the field(certain models) may not have too much difference in usage.

2. Weight and setup is vital if a lot of traveling is involved.

3. the 180mm/150mm standard lens is more than enough.

4. the 75mm wide is good to have but not always good. For building, not used.

5. the 105mm for 6X9 is desired, and good for 6X9.

6. The 6X9 back may not fit on all backs. The graflock back is essential.

Considering the Toyo 45 A now.

Considering the Toyo 45 A now.

1. The mono rail and field camera do have some difference. One of it is expendability. (You can think of the Sinar system as something like DIY PC and the Linhof system as something more closer to a ultra high end PC in courts.) I can add rail, change my back to a metering back or even change the back to a 8X10 back and rise the front for an upgrade. While higher end field camera do has lighter weight and quite a bit of movement at the rear, there is still limitation to the lens it can mount. Due to unable to add-on rail, you won't be able to focus on a longer mm lens as FLange will be longer as well. If you are using something like 135mm, you will realise that even the leather bellow for field camera is a bit hard for shift and tilt as such, you will start to think why they never release a wide angle bellow for your camera.

2. Weight and setup varies on different people. (I lugged my camera to china ;p)

3. This varies, there are time when I need extra distance and will use a 210mm. (Just sold as need some $$$, only to realise I got issue shooting at changi beachwalk recently due to lens a bit too short...)

4. Have to agree on the 75mm. I am a control freak so the 190mm IC range isn't to my liking on movement. To fix building shots, unless it is low level building, the tilt and rise do need quite a bit and 190mm IC is always an issue unless you can get to the opposite building center.

*Cannot comment on 6X9 as I don't use a 120 back more than 2 months.

*Don't think and just get the Toyo 45 A and jump deeper into poison.

Is that light falloff at the bottom of the photo? Now you need a center filter - more things to buy! )

yes, it looks like light fall off indeed, but I am not so sure... The ground level is really darker then the higher floors.
I need more test to confirm

What is the F-stop used to shoot this photo? Cause I mentioned about F22 being the test for most lens if not mentioned. 190mm+ IC is also tested at F22, wider open mostly have smaller image circle while stopping down pass F22 will have much larger IC. Even shifting the rear element can means closer to lens on one side as compared to another. Longer and short bellow also plays a part in the IC size.

the shot was taken at F32 and 1/8 sec if I remember correctly. I think there is slight fall off, but not too serious....
need more test to confirm...

Back to 75mm, do you guys have focusing issue with F8 lenses?

I'm using a 90mm F8. I have a bit of issue with focusing in slightly dim lighting. I have to strain my eye with a loupe to focus as it is a bit too dark.
