bring a 12-24 and a 24-120... practical choices... if u think you might see need the tele-end - bring a 18-200 to replace the 24-120.

If you are more ineterested in landscape for your trip, Nikon 12-24 is an excellent lens.
It is sharp, excellent contrast, good color and best of all image field is truly flat. Excellent wide angle coverage.
This is important if you have building in your composition. Plenty in Europe.

18-200 VR barrel distortion very serious at wider end. Some say VR is good for low light. But my opinion, take photo when there is good light.

Nikon 17-55 is also good as an addition incase you might want a longer reach. But really hard to find a good copy of this lens. Anyway you already have 18-70 so you don't really need 17-55.

Well above comments basis I assume your are using digital SLR.

Great lens, very versatile and because i do abit of everything as I am using this for portrait (studio), landscape or just anything else, so the range is perfect; very sharp, very fast and solid built and highly rated (e.g. bythom) and the F2.8 allows some level of creativity with DOF. Wide enough for most landscape shots, and if hardworking can always stich them together to produce beautiful panaroma, taken at 35mm (normal) perspective.

12-24mm
Had 17-55mm and only bought these lens recently, reason why? tight crops, ask yourself how many times that you are in such a tight location that the 18mm simply not good enough? also, at 12mm could produce simply magical images if you balance front-back composition as what surge has done or closer on a portrait. It just gives a completely different perspective, in fact was considering the 10.5mm but perhaps too difficlt to deal with most times and its out of stock anyway.

So, I am only having these two lens plus 70-200mm and the 'travel' with me anywhere... even up the angkor wat steps with a trusted tripod. Did I mention D2X? If you are doing this for travel, take note that you might be swearing about the 3-4 other prime lens that you did not bring, so i pick versatility then understanding the limitations or weakness of these lens and use them for everything.

Forget about bring so many lens, it is very troublesome. I'm not sure if you are using DSLR. If you own Canon DSLR, EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is excellent. Can handle night, rough bumpy ride (e.g. train, hilly terrain) very well because of IS. Else, I recommend the 35mm f2.0 lens. Very useful, can handle dark condition and focus easily.

hi all,

pls advise me in some lenses i could get for travel photography. i will be shooting landscapes mostly. but anyhoots just list the lenses that are suitable! i'm travelling to europe for 3 mths in a few mths so planning on getting ready prices of lenses are not an issue so just shoot.

If travelling and wide-angle lenses is your forte, get a rangefinder. Think size and non-retro-focus lenses

Just carry the 28-70 and stitch if you need it wider. Of course you will need to have a good tripod and a head that can pan, also something to measure that both the base and the camera is level....but I carry 5 lenses and a TC when I travel....

The use of pl is not restricted to travelling PL as the name suggests, is to polarise light. It is mainly use to cut glare/reflection but many use it to increase color saturation and darken blue skies; and some use a double-PL to create a false IR look. Use it when you need it or when situation calls for it.
