Thanks for dropping into this thread. Australia is a really wonderful place for road trips. It's close to SG and a lot of frequent flights there. Unless tied down with other commitments, I am sure u can make some time out for another trip down memory lane. Guess that's just part and parcel of life. When I was backpacking in the past, I wished I had picked up photography earlier too. But with a partner now, it's always more about how to balance between photography and not annoying the other party. Lol... There will be small little regrets now and then but at the end of the day, I think to enjoy the trip and experience is the most important.

Awe inspiring work bro. Enjoyed every single capture you presented here. Thank you so much for sharing.

Hey KT! Going to melbourne ard Nov end...amazing set u hve done last yr!! Just curious, do u recall whether sunset timings down under pretty similar to SGP or do they occur earlier?

#25 - Gibson Steps close up. Notice how the shadow of the right rock fall onto the left forming a "door" with the position changing at different positions of sunset.

If I never remember wrongly, it's about the same as in SG if u r going in Nov end but due to the vastness of scapes, expect longer timings to stay at a particular location as the colors can last for half hour or more. At the 12 apostles national park, I stayed there till 2000hrs ++, one reason was also to catch a glimpse of penguins coming ashore.

Hi kuantoh, amazing photos!.....seeking inspirations from this thread as i'll be visiting Victoria region in 2 weeks time with family. Love the Great Ocean Road shots. Last went in 2003 and haven't take up photography back then. Hope can take some nice ones this time round.

For the Mackenzie Fall shot, do you need to trek to get that close or there is some viewing platform there? Thanks for sharing such amazing travel photos!

U will enjoy Victoria in springtime. It's lovely.

For the MacKenzie's Falls question, it's about 10-15mins hike down to the foot of the falls which I took the shot there. The path is paved and steps so pretty easy to walk down. As for the hike up, it's just like walking up 12 storeys probably. An earlier post shows the walk down as shown below:

There is a viewing platform there but the angles were not directly in view of the whole waterfall. I hopped over a few rocks into the center of the river and stuck my tripod into the waters to get that shot. However, one can't afford to open the shutter for too long as once the wind blows, there will be water spraying all over the lens from the falls. It's best to go in the afternoon as the light will be upon the falls.

Thanks kuantoh! can't wait to hope on the plane:) Hopefully my wife & 6yr old won't complain too much abt the climbing....haha!;)

I am sure they would complain. Lol... But most importantly, the scenery is worth it. When they reach the foot, enjoy the water spray on the face and relax for a while there. It's really a nice shady place after a walk down.

It's going to be tight for a round trip in a day but possible. I suppose u are starting from Melbourne and making stops at Apollo Bay then to the 12 Apostles before hitting Port Campbell. U can skip Port Fairy as it's going to be too far off considering it's only a day trip.

Melbourne - Apollo bay (inclusive stopover scenic areas): ~ 3.5hours
Apollo bay - Port Campbell (inclusive stopping over the scenic areas + lunch): ~4hours
Port Campbell - Melbourne (non stop) - ~3.5hours

Total time: ~11hours

You got to start your day early at probably 0600hrs or latest 0700hrs to fully enjoy the sightseeing along the way. Allow for more time in between but i guess your driver will take note of the latest time to return Melbourne.

Summer has pretty safe and predictable weather but watch out for the houseflies. They are extremely disturbing.

cool thks boss, i was told not to miss Lorne for this trip wat are ur thoughts?

Also do i need extra reach to get the limestone formations? i intend just to lug the 24-70 ard

Hmm... If u asked me, I would say for a day tri, you could probably give it a miss. The main activity at Lorne is surfing so unless you do have a couple of days there, you can probably enjoy the beach and waves. But as a stopover for half hour or so to capture some surfers in action or have a snack on the beach can be done too. The beach do have some nice rock formations though.

Extra reach is always recommended and a travel lens like 28-300 or 18-200 would be preferred IMO over a 70-200. But nevertheless, it's a personal preference or choice to bring heavier and better lens of course. 24-70 on FF may not be enough for the additional reach in certain areas like the 12 Apostles if you are thinking to get a close up of the rocks. But there is always the availability of cropping when you are back of course.

#26 - The majestic 12 Apostles (left with 7 now) at sunset. Blessed with clear skies though would have wished for some clouds, the sunset was exceptionally vibrant and orange, litting up the rocks and cliffs.

Oh wow this is really beautiful! I was there last month but didn't get such a good shot. We didn't have time to wait for good light, unfortunately :( Anyway, this is a great series of shots. Great job :)

Thanks :) Sometimes waiting for the light with ur other half can have unforeseen circumstances. So to minimize this wait, I normally plan flexibly. If I reach the location just before the "right" time, I will stay and wait for the light. Else I will call it a day. But sometimes, u never know if the time is right. Lol...

As usual..inspiring photos!

Thanks!
