DCA, up to you lor. Follow your heart.
Nikon is good if you decide to come over to the Dark Side.

Or you can stay on to Konica Minolta.

So which one your heart tells you, you decide.
Dun care what ppl say.

Just got inside news, Sony will coming something breakthrough when they take over KinocaMinolta.
Something which both Nikon and Canon dun have.
But Sony are more worried about Panasonic and Samsung than Nikon and Canon.
can give more info?

Sob!sob!... entry of DSLR with image stabliser.. stop.... just hope that Sony will continue to provide the service....

Probably a zero lux AF coupled with night vision....

Traffic Policeman in Beijing and probabaly other parts of China are using KM Z3/Z5......
I guess they would probably know that the service support for the cams will still be around....

Else ...i don't think they are willing to invest on such tools if its otherwise.

it will rename as Super Duper Steady Cam.... :bsmilie:

I think like sulhan say, a high possibility of the 1st DSLR with 0 lux capability... Night Shot Mode...

And i am still hoping for a Mirror Up Direct LCD (it is confirm workable... just nobody listening to me... )

This remind me of the game console Dreamcast situation.
I think selling to Sony is sometimes a no choice situation.
It might be a bad or good news.
But always look on the brighter side.
Regardless, of what is the future situation, your
current KM 5D/7D will still provide you with lots of fun and good pictures.
It is the experience that counts after all ;)

Yup, selling to Sony is really a no choice situation. If you read the press release, KM is losing 8.7 billion yen (think abt 90 million S$) this year in the photo business. Can't expect Nikon, Canon, Oly or any other players to pay good money to take up KM photo business. Only Sony need the technology in dSLR and is rich enough to do so. So this is really either close shop or sell off situation for KM.

No wonder R1 & H1 look like the Z series of minolta.... hmmmm conspiracy...

Wah... long long never come, come back suddenly see big big news...

Hmmm.. as for propiretary technologies, I think we can be rest assured that they'll support CF. And think about it, Minolta's flash mount had also been proprietary, just hope that they don't change the flash mount (they only said they'll keep the A-lens mount). Well, memory stick's price had been sliding, S$129 for a 1 gb (sony brand), about S$149 for a 1 gb sandisk (faster). Not really that bad mah. Some more I can share memory with my PSP liao... hahaha...

Anyway, the old Sony CEO (or was it chairman?) got fired and one of the issues the new ang moh guy who took over was the problems of expensive proprietary 'technologies'. Dunnoe what he plan to change, but hope it'll be in the right directions.

Let's see what June is going to bring us...

Now I've got a question... when people or clients (yeah some are wierd) ask what brand of camera I use, what am I going to say?
"I'm using a Minolta Lens on a Konica Minolta Body which had been cleaned at the Sony service center"

So, what would the rumoured 7D be called? Sony DSC-7Di?
And mabbe can even plug into PS3 and play the new craze called snap! snap! revolution?
;p

To add to the CT....do you think the take over has to do with the recent event where numerous Sony digital cameras were rejected from China due to its QC problem??

So now they are buying the technological advancement of KM to penetrate to the lucrative China market?? :dunno:

Also the Cybershot T9 i think is one of the first result of the KM Sony joint hands in P&S section.

It could be....a colaboration of Sony to use KM's antishake'ed internal body-plane type zoom.

New Sony -KM platform for DSLR in 2006 PMA

quite lots of new lens and DSLR info, I think Sony will help to sell lots of new lens and cam than ever, just like sony-erric handphone.

and
David Kilpatrick from KM forum:

" new Sony Konica Minolta is definitely working on an entire new range of lenses. That I can tell you, because no-one has ever denied it, or suggested it is classified info. It is well known that the glass making plant and lens manufacturing in Japan shut down and was moved. I don't think they put it in a dumpster. For the last 20 years prior to Konica involvement, Minolta transferred all redundant machinery to new owners or partners in China, one reason why the Minolta MD mount system is a massive seller in China alongside the Nikon mount and the open-licence Pentax K mount. Anything you can still buy, anywhere, in the old MD system is now a Chinese product.

While it has never been openly confirmed or admitted, everyone 'in the know' believes that the former Minolta glass production (formulating and melting) and lens manufacturing plant is now located in China, that it has already produced some lenses, that the best of the former Japanese lens designs are being reintroduced from this origin, and that new lens designs will follow."

new 7D2 now testing in Malaysia...

Somebody asked if I was still alive. Well quite sinply the answer is yes. Just got of the phone after my 64th phone call since 5.30 am this morning. To answer a few questions here. Will the 7Di look the same as the existing 7D? Yes it will with all the dials etc. Exterior wise virtually the same camera. The major difference occurs inside the body. A few new chips here and there (sorry I can't be mmore specific). Faster write time, lightening AF speed, new sony cmos 10.3 MP sensor. Price wise around the same price when the 7D first came out depending on where one buys it.

Now everybody is asking about firmware update on the existing 7D. I know what I said in a previous forum which in a way I should not have as things change so quick in the digital world today. So now I have learnt not to mention things so far in advance because if it does not materialized I am class as a fraud etc. Will there be a firmware upgrade? Because of the merger with Sony and the new 7D will incorporate a lot of that new technology a firmware upgrade might not be a benefit to the existing 7D. I will have proper confirmation on this within the next few days.

I am now going to throw a spanner in the works here and provided I don't get my head chopped off from powers above me above me there will be a second DSLR (KM) releasesd at PMA. Regarding new glass I will be getting confirmation within the next few days.

Thanks Kiklop. KM has a lot of new and exciting products around the corner. As you are aware that PMA starts on February 26th - March 1st in Orlando. I will be there for only two days. If you happen to turn up I will say Hi to you. KM are on stand 3350.

fellow km (and other) users, whatever it is, you should simply remember that the camera and kit in your hands doesn't change. we cannot expect these large corps to stay stagnant. m&a's are commonplace these days and eventually we'll have one or two large global banks, pharmaceutical companies, CS equipment forums :bsmilie: :bsmilie: so what is there to stop the same for camera manufacturers? essentially the only thing we need to be concerned (read: not worried) about is the availability of future service, parts and product line items. i suspect (and really hope) that by the time we come to this crossroad, our dslrs would have been past their prime. unless of course you choose to fret about this sellout and forget to continue using your camera ;)

on a more light-hearted note:

i think sony shouldn't worry lah... if panasonic and samsung do merge they'll be called "sampan"... hahahaha.... i think the so-called "breakthrough" will be a re-hash/ re-packaging of the fabled 9d.

ps: do pause for a moment to think about, and feel for the people at km who will be displaced as a result of this sale.

and new SKM DSLR 7D2 now testing in Malaysia...

no wonder call 7Di...

same like that time they bought over ericsson...

T68i

so now i wonder wat name... confirm its Sony infront... but wats next? they pay Konica the remainder, and ask them to *beep* off... then put Sony Minolta?

wahr, buy and sell section macam more and more minolta lens for sale... *itchy*

ahh... long time no post...
Now post a sympathy message only...

deeply sad.. coz i am not the one that in the near future to upgrade body or something..
and for me it is a worry point if later they will not support my body due to closed down.

experience i have..
Last time i own a Sony J70... damn good phone compared to N3310..
I had a problem my speaker died once.. and that time i still got supported...
although not directly form sonyerr but their partner.
I hope my 5D can have similar treatment later...

btw the phone still being used until now... already 5 yrs or something...

as i know Sony design QC maybe not bad... but they just dont have the same level of standard... at least in audio products as i have known better.

actually i even more worried about third party lens... will the merger comp want to support my 5D if using 3rd party lense...hiks hiks..

actually it finally makes some sense now...

Zeiss & Sony are not partners anymore, and nowadays we seldom see advertisement that write a big Zeiss with Sony... and evidence by Zeiss moving towards Nikon... wonder whats the reason here... either side initiated, either Zeiss say going to produce consumer lens, or Sony wanna make DSLR, so Zeiss goes Nikon, Sony goes after Minolta...

So who knows, maybe SSM rename become Sony Sonic Motor....

and i doubt we will have zeiss lens on a Sony DSLR. It will be Minolta... now the worrying part is... will a G lens cos alot more... or the quality will suffer...

hmm .. now kinda glad i din buy the A200 that i've been contemplating to get all this while. then again, my current digi cam broke down liaos. time to make serious considerations

I think it's still OK to buy the A200.

What's of more concern is how this will affect system users.

i wonder what's uncle forbytes' reaction after reading this. :bsmilie:

well, wait and see lor. if people ask me what camera brand I am using, I will tell them Sony. Wedding event tomorrow lar. haahaa.

But sulhan is right, brand should not better, BUT

camera brand has heritage. Lens from different companies are design differently and they do have distinctive characteristics. Like what you guys said, Sony will definite keep the best CCD for their DSLR. My immediate concern would be lens development technology. Will Minolta coating goes down to drain as well. Also no memory sticks please. Sony is a good brand. I am quite positive about it. Me not to worried about price. The price from Sony DSLR should be competitive enough against current models.

i was stunned when i heard the news - i only bought the dynax 5d a fortnight ago -_-
but then i feel it's a win-win situation now, since some might want to dump their KM lenses and accessories for cheap and sony will continue to make lenses for the minolta mount.

only hope their lenses can be backward compatible with 5d/7d. if not....wrath will be incurred haha.
