I think Sony Minolta will do just fine.

I hope what you mention won't come true also, although quite unlikely to happen.

ermm .. my concern is KM cameras still can buy or not ? are they still gg to provide technical support for their products ?

sure they (Sony) will need to provide technical support.

Unless Konica Minolta go bankrupt, they can escape the liability for servicing the warranty.

lenses are gona turn very expensive soon...

As shown in the press release... there will NOT be Minolta brand anymore. All the future products will simply carry the Sony brand... more like a technology transfer to me.

IMO, the innovative spirit at Minolta is at risk. Sad to see the marque go. I am digusted.

aftermath of the APS debacle
some companies still bleeding to death
even merger cannot help

APS started with trumpets blaring and strong support from major companies.

Nikon and Fuji and Canon survived

Looks like Kodak, Konica, Minolta, kyocera, seem to be affected

APS had evil designs on making the consumer forever dependent on photo labs. Who can then charge them high prices. They even keep the film in the cartridge. No slides. Cannot do home developing also.

The most evil design intent behind APS is they try to make consumers buy whole sets of APS sized lenses all over again.

Serve them right.

that is bad news!!

dun u guys feel that this is a remake of the sony buy ericsson case?
At first, they will come up with super good phones with tonnes of super functions and at a low price eg. look at T68i and T610 => price and performance rocks the whole mobile industry.
But wat happen after a few yrs? look at the price of the "sony walkman" and w800i etc. still got good functions, but wat abt the price? SKY-HIGH

I can forsee them using their name + low price + high performance cams + lens to capture the market initially..and then after that, gota be stuck in their systems with all high priced future items(that is if u stick with them)

hmm .. now kinda glad i din buy the A200 that i've been contemplating to get all this while. then again, my current digi cam broke down liaos. time to make serious considerations

Should i go Nikon, or stay with Sony?...
Anyway, Sony good with promotion, and dunno if its just local, their CS in Sg sucks...

DCA, up to you lor. Follow your heart.
Nikon is good if you decide to come over to the Dark Side.

Or you can stay on to Konica Minolta.

So which one your heart tells you, you decide.
Dun care what ppl say.

Just got inside news, Sony will coming something breakthrough when they take over KinocaMinolta.
Something which both Nikon and Canon dun have.
But Sony are more worried about Panasonic and Samsung than Nikon and Canon.

KM had made a good move!! KM wanted out & let Sony bigger to it's competitor.

For those who are afraid of this breaking news, you can start selling your stuff. So it's either buy lens now & stick to current systems till some time down the road or change system totally.

For me, I will still play my 5D & start buying more lens that I need. Cause the new lens may not be fully usable on the old body. Sony can ask owner to go for re-chipping of KM lens for use in newer body, this are in the hundreds $ area. Canon have already done this before.

Wonder if Sony will come out a powerful night-vision DSLR with Anti-shake technology from KM??

What's really bad :
Sony's accessory don't have warranty at all. (I burn a FX32 flash in 2 months before)
Sony's stuff is fully of sony proprietary.

I will definately buy Sony product with KM technology for sure. (Just don't trust the accessory only) My 828 is working fine for 2 years liao. Being following me to many counties & work hard.

i used to have both T68i and T610, and whole range of BT headset from sony...they are cheap with lots of features...but they are also extremely slow and unreliable....i have lost count of the number of visits to SE service center....until i give up and change to Samsung.

Dont forget expensive accessories...battery, remote and flash....they usually have special connectors or chips to make them hard to DIY or reverse engineered by "OEM" manufacturers

This remind me of the game console Dreamcast situation.
That time I bought the Dreamcast instead of PS2.
After 1 year, I heard that SEGA is going to withdraw from the game console market.
That's means no more new games for me
Though no more new games for me, I must say that the Dreamcast still
provides me with a few years of fun gaming experience before it finally dies off.
I still keep the hardware for memory sake...
Oops... OT here... :bsmilie:

Sad news for KM brand loyalists.
But KM had done a great job, before they are sold.
KM 5D is definitely the best DSLR with AS technology
at the right price for budget users.
We should all be happy about that.
I think selling to Sony is sometimes a no choice situation.
It might be a bad or good news.
But always look on the brighter side.
Regardless, of what is the future situation, your
current KM 5D/7D will still provide you with lots of fun and good pictures.
It is the experience that counts after all ;)
