You require a PC Flash Adaptor PCT-100 and a standard PC cord. Try Cathay.

thanks dude, much appreciated! ;) any idea how much it costs? i remember the KM version was over $100.

eh... why don't u use your 3600HS or 5600HS to trigger the studio flash?

Or just get a cheaper 3500xi flash and only use it to trigger the studio flash? just set everything to manual...

just buy a IR trigger or RF trigger... then mount a FS-1100... simpler... seldom ppl use cable unless suay, and the kaiser iso to studio port only 10 bucks nia...

u guys should really start an MO for FS-1100, its an essential, dun wait until it become extinct lor...

(btw... if u wan only side light, will u use a pop up flash to trigger? ;p

I don't use the pop up flash to trigger, especially with 5D, there is no Manual setting on the camera for built in flash.

If you only want side light, just use 1 studio strobe...

Something like this?

Using 1 studio flash with Umbrella on the left of the subject, trigger using 5600HS and 7D.

Did you use Manual on your 5600HS to trigger the studio flash instead of TTL?? Cause i think the pre-flash might be of problem here.

I m comtemplating to get one of those mentioned by pai then mount it with a RF trigger.

If the 5600HS works well, i might have save a nother SD100. thx.

Yes.. manual for everything in Studio.. can't use pre-flash.. because the camera will read the exposure from your flash (5600HS) and you don't want that... All you need to do is set it to manual mode on your flash and camera and set the flash output to be 1/32. Hence the flash is solely use for triggering the studio strobe.

thanks for all the input guys! quite a bit of info! just a question, how do you trigger studio strobes that are triggered by cable only? ok, someone please spare me the smart answer of going to another studio or getting diff strobes ;) but seriously, is the PCT-100 the only option? i have a 5600HSD, saw a cable port on the side, but don't remember that being the same shape as a pc-sync jack...

the cable port on the 5600 is for connecting via oc-1100 off-camera cable. different thing.

the adapter (nick's) i recommended has a port on the side that acts as pc-sync port.

erm... other alternatives... i dunno, get an fs-1100, then mount one of those wein safe-sync things on it? (heehee, i really dunno what i'm talking about. read it somewhere so just regurgitate it here)... or actually i thought DCA mention some cheaper $10 thing you can mount on the fs-1100... kaiser iso to studio port or something?

thanks Pai, i guess the PCT-100 is the best bet yet for cable-only strobes. ;)

I am quite surprise that nowadays people still using cable only Studio strobe....

Anyway, yes, if that is the case, you need to buy the PCT-100 thingy.. basically a PC socket.

nice shots - both! btw, OT a bit, how's the 7D compared to 5D? thinking of investing in a 7D to compliment the 5D, or passing the 5D to the wife... ;)

I would think probably wait for Sony one in Summer, or they release more detail then decide, since you have 5D already? Unless you can resist the Adorama's 7D sales.

haven't really found a good bargain except for the Adorama offer. but you're right zcf, best to wait it out. i'm not too hot about any new release from Sony, probably bad experience with their products/ qc, but i suppose that would severely slash prices of the 7D, only trouble is Sony, having the financial muscle, may decide to recall the unsold 7Ds from the market, in order to monopolise the KM/ Sony DSLR market with their new release.

as Bart Simpson says, damned if you do, damned if you don't...
