Hi, need help from all. My A1's CCD just die, anyone can advice me where shd i send my camera for servicing ? Thanks.:)

Go to Wisma Atria Sony Service Centre.

Does Sony also do fungus cleaning?

So rather than Sony take over the existing KM service centres, the existing ones were closed down and support transferred to current Sony service centres...won't that increase the repair time since load has increased?

Just to share what I know. Went down on 2nd April and was greeted by a non-KM (read: doesn't know anything about Minolta stuff) personnel. Told me that Sony Wisma was only collection centre and they do not do any repairs there (missing KMSC now). Cameras will be sent to workshop somewhere in TUAS. Repairs are expected to be completed and ready for collection in 2 weeks or more. Anyone can translate the the term "more"? How does SONY usually define it? :dunno:

I kindly thanked the guy and left. Reason: I only wanted them to glue my thumbpad, which has fallen off. Cannot imagine leaving my camera there for 2 weeks for that.

I called the number in the link that smtan24 gave and was greeted by some machines saying "blah blah Konica Minolta blah blah", which I thought was pretty weird.

Anyway, they quoted me that fungus cleaning will be $60 if there is nothing to change. Saw this link: http://www.sony.com.sg/Sony_New/service&support/sony_service_reception/sony_service_reception.html and it states that I can drop it at any collection centre(I am looking at IMM). I was wondering, can I just drop off the lens there, or do I still have to go to Wisma Atria?

why i get the feeling it is not safe and making me don wanna send my body for service there...

Looks like we'll have to wait for some feedback from those who have experience of sending their KM equipment to Sony Service station.

Beware of fungus cleaning. I ever send my 7i for it and in the end, ended up with more problems. That was during the time when our KM is located at funan n in the end, still return with more n more problems. But when it was solved, the CCD gone case but lucky got free replacement else my 7i will be sleeping in the storeroom now if it wasn't working anymore. So, when you got back your camera, do a check on every dial and make sure it is working before leaving the SC. ;)

I would not mind. I should be sending my lens in this Saturday or Sunday if everything goes well. Its just too easy to blame the weather :cheergal: :complain: :faint: :blah:

Cheers! Do feedback the turn around time, cost and the quality of their work. These are the factors which I'm most concerned about.

hi fellas,
I am curious. did you all use an electric dry box to keep your cameras?
if yes, how did the fungus form? you have to take it out of the dry box for a couple of weeks for that to happen, right?

OT: fungus? prob dry box with silica gel or bad second hand lens... i use an electric cabinet - found the dry box option too troublesome and difficult to expand the collection :bsmilie:

yes guys, please let us know how the trip/ adventure with the Sony service centre goes. my 5D's suffering the same "Err" problem (first shot goes blank then needs off-on to restart). still under warranty but i think that's going to get even less priority from SSC because i'm not paying anything... *sigh*...

The fungus appered when I got the camera+lens. Anyway, got a reply from Sony.

Good day Mr ********,

In reply to your enquiry and having checked with our engineer, you are advised to check in the lens. Our engineer will have to look at the condition and extent of the fungus in the lens first before he can advise you on the charges. In severe cases where cleaning is not posssible, customers are advised to replace a new lens from the dealers.

As for Dynax 7000i, you may send in for checking on exposure, focusing, winding and other camera functions. Please be informed that should there be any faults detected with the unit, we are unable to repair it as the parts for this model are no longer in supply. An assessment fee of $10.50 will be incurred for checking and evaluation of Dynax 7000i.

The only available outlet to check in your unit is at the following address:

Sony Service Reception
435 Orchard Road
#04-01 Wisma Atria
Singapore 238877
Office hours: 11am-9pm daily.

We hope that the information is useful to you.

Thank you and best regards.

here's my experience with Sony,

went down to ask to change the batt of my Clie PDA, and ask about the price,

ans: I don't know

me: could you give me an estimate

ans: i don't know because the price fluctuate

me: then base on your history , what is the range, don't worry I am not asking you to committ, i just want an estimate

ans; i don't know, everytime it's different

\me: so what causes the fluctuation, the batt price changes all the time, or the service charge changes all the time?

ans: mmmmmmmmm....maybe its the service charge

me: do you change batt differently all the time, you just open the cover , remove th ebatt and replace a new one right? so how can it be diff all the time. could you look through your records, just tell me what is the price you chare for the last person whom changed batt with you

ans: (without checking) maybe about 80+

anyway, I'm not being critical. It is my observation that those at the SSR are counter people and are not well versed in the technical aspects of the products. Their main job is to know enough to help you to check-in your product/device. So, I don't expect them to be of much help.

HOWEVER, I really am staring to miss the service by KMSC by now...

uh-oh....no spares parts? I thought Sony commited to supporting existng products for 7 years at least?

Yah man, just called them regarding 7D eyecup. First they don't even understand what is eyecup. Then said that they never take over the parts from KM, only servicing. All parts will have to go wisma and place order.

I hope sony management understand that the impact of having a group of unhappy KM customers is not a problem for KM, it directly affects the reputation of SONY. For once I have high regards for them being in the forefront of digital technology. But this KM servicing issue is creating a lot more negative impact then what they can imagine. Hope SONY do something abt it without delay.

For an old cam like mine without warranty, I may have to tolerate. But what abt those customer with much newer set under warranty? Not fair isn't it?
