Chinese normally do not display knives openly at home. It is bad for Feng Shui.
Therefore, magnetic stripes and knife racks are not popular here.

I think for me, I would prefer this to a knife block for its stylish design (to me) as well as the ability to keep our blades free from contact with any surface. Who knows what sort of "gook" is growing in the crevices of a knife block?:bsmilie:

I soak my knife block in John Boos Authentic Boos Blocks "Mystery Oil". It helps prevent algae growth and your knife from staining.

I am using the same Daiso stone also...... not to sharpen knives but to clean my whetstones.

The Daiso stone helps clean, level and straighten the whetstones so as to prepare their surfaces for the next knife to be sharpened.
