K5 or K30

the DA*16-50 is getting updated?

How about the Tamron 70-200mm F2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro? Except for the slow AF, seems to be very well liked @ pentaxforum.

Anyone knows how much it costs?

if u using the k5 it is not that slow. you have to judge the slowness for yourself.

About S$1.4-1.5k locally, from Tamron price list. Got mine for S$1.2k shipped from Adorama 2 years ago. Sharp even at large apertures, loud AF, AF speed is ok for non SDM lens.

Sdm is slow. I prefer screw drive for af. but it seems sigma is faster.

But tamron is quite ok lens. Sharp and lightweight, bokeh is smooth. I know, because I managed to urge somebody here to but one... Lol

Nice lens, but i felt the freely rotating focus ring (when disengaged) and the loud and notchy focus ring engagement was quite a big ergonomic downside.. Quite easy to grab the focus ring when changing lens and have it spin and make you fumble the lens.. Ended up gaffer taping the focus ring down and never usin manual focus. Also i felt the tripod collar locking screw was not made of a good material and the threads kept stripping. Had mine replaced under warranty twice. Ended up switching to the Sigma HSM II which is ergonomically superior imo. By my experience the image quality is not worse than the Tamron, but it seems to get a bad rep for that somehow. Switched systems but bought the same Sigma.

I advise to try both brands in hand side by side before deciding!

Hey guys,

Would the 15-50 and 50-135 be a good place to start? Have been eyeing the K30 for some time now.

Thanks

The DA*16-50 and DA* 50-135 are great lenses and are WR too, but they do cost a bomb. If you have the budget, go got them. If not there are equivalent lenses like Tamron 17-50 F2.8 and Sigma 18-50 F2.8 and Tamron & Sigma 70-200 F2.8

tamron/sigma 70200 brand new is not that cheap almost same price as da*50135. unless u can get 2nd hand copy. if u tight budget get the DA18135 it will be a great way to start. if u really mo budget please dont disregard the kit lena too. DA1855WR at MTF F5.6 or F8 is a damn good landscape lens on the cheap.

Agree with Posuer as I started out with the DA 18-55 before getting the DA*16-50 and now the DA18-135.

dunno where u heard from but its not on the roadmap...

http://www.pentaximaging.com/files/pdf/lens_roadmap.pdf

unless u're referring to the one thats supposed to come in 2013 but thats a different focal range as far as i can see...

On the interview video the Jap says there will be a replacement, but it could be a message lost in translation. In any case, I wish for 16-50 mark II f2.8 WR, this is a very important lens for my work. I need it to be fast AF and reliable with good centre sharpness wide open. I can wait.... especially the K3, perhaps they may have articulated LCD and better AF.

16-50 and 50-135 are excellent options so long as you budget allows.
Get it and no need to look back.

My bro got these as his first lenses and they have served him well from day one till now (that's >4yrs already).
With these two, he doesn't really need any other lens to fill any gaps either.
Its not always necessary to buy cheap lenses and then need to sell and upgrade.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I like to shoot everything (cept sports).

And indeed a 16-50 and 50-135 combo covers all the focal range I ever need.

Am very much in favour of getting the better lens to start with and grow into em (my skills is the major limiting factor), and do away with upgrading !

Thanks again..... K30 here I come !

If its that impt to your work, u shld just get a copy and spend on extended warranty for peace of mind.

Pix quality wise, i think its a very good lens. According to the PF review, its supposedly not as good as the 3rd party offerings but i really wonder abt that... In terms of real world use, i really liked it when i had it.

Hello, may I know how the DA18-135 fares compared to the 18-55 kit lens? Is it a noticeable upgrade?

i dont own a copy of 18135 but i had used it a couple of times. i feel optics is consider an upgrade to the kit lens plus the focal range is very convenient. if u want nice bokeh. try shooting wide open at between 100 to 135mm
