Well, I guess I don't need further test w/ mine. Just need to use it in the field ...

Cheers and happy shooting.

Finally, I gave in and bought one from AP with the 16-45mm.
I think I may have bought the last new set they have.
The demo is still available.

for the first time i see 13 viewers on this forum! hahahaha....

K10D!

One thing I'm not used to is that the shutter button doesn't feel like there is a half-press. Is this a characteristic of Pentax?

I think because it is more responsive compared with my DS.

Forgive me, but I'm a first time DSLR buyer here (using Canon S80 currently, and understands how to use manual settings). May I ask, how viable is the pancake lens (DA40) as a walkabout lens? (How is your experience with it, anyone?).

I suggest you start with the kit lens first and see which focal length best suits your style. The DA 40 is a nice little lens..but it might not be wide enough.

Another thing, in what situations does an external flash be required? What is the difference in usability of the Pentax 360 and 540 flash?

You need external flash if you do a lot of low light photography and your camera bulit in flash is not strong enough. Most external flash have bounce head to diffuse or soften the light so that is will not result in harsh shadows and high contrast lighting..

Pentax AF360 have guide no. 30, head only tilt up to 180 hotizontally and AF540 have guide no 54 and head can adjustable angles of -10 to 90 degrees vertically and up to 180 degrees horizontally.

istDeS, thanks for your advice. I think I'll go in slow and steady before adding other accessories needlessly ;p

p.s. fengwei and phantasmal, great colour rendition in the photos from both of you! Nicely saturated and 3-D.

Just bought K10D body from AP at 11am plus. Bargained down from $1400 to $1320.

Tried the dust removal and it was quite loud. Could feel the vibration while holding the body.

man, those photos are really nice!

Heard some guy got the K10D body alone from MS Color for $1240 only! :o That's even cheaper than the Ds I got a year ago

Yeah, probably, but hopefully they still got some K10D left by then :bsmilie:

All this talk of K10D making my heart twitch... ;p
One thing though, was looking at the specs, it seems that K10D don't use 4xAAs like the *ists?

Nope, but the new battery has brought about focussing improvements and the like. It's also Li-ion, so self-discharge is not a problem.

eneloops are SO expensive. :|

No, it doesn't. I think giving up the AA size battery could make the camera lighter.

Good to see more competition also.

Yup, though the lenses are out but still too pricy compare to others. $ony do need to be more competitive in releasing cycle, technology and pricing. Or they will never reach far below the target they set.

Using AAs was one of the plus for me when buying my DL actually.
Being a forgetful person, I foresaw it would be good for those long trips when I go "Oh @#$%! The charger's in that bag I forgot to bring!" while on the plane.

Anyway, I don't foresee an upgrade for myself that soon. Not without some violent protest from my CFO...

But the eneloops really are THAT good. Apparently...

My first pic using Pentax K10D. This is straight out of camera, just crop and resize.
