K-30 Officially Announce ...

with a glass pentaprism finder featuring a 100% field of view and approximately 0.92X maximum magnification

cool, as mid-level, not like pentax kx pentamirror

a maximum speed of approximately 6 frames per second (not as rumored 4)

true-to-life Live View at a smooth 60 frames per second. It also features a focus peaking function during live view to improve manual focusing speed and accuracy.
3-inch LCD monitor with approximately 921,000 dots of resolution

the K-30 can also be powered by four AA-size batteries using the optional D-BH109 AA Battery Holder. (like K-r) no need heavy battery grip

All feature I like over my pentax kx

anyway waiting for k-5 successor as well... should be 24MP for the looks of it....

just to add the focus peaking at live view probably will be very useful for macro... provided stability is not an issue.... using VF is just a pain and need very good eye sight...

Will wait for K-5, skally lighter than this. :bsmilie:

12 bit RAW versus 14 bit RAW , it may be my imagination but I think for sky gradient, 14 bit seems less likely to band when pushed...

Saving my wallet for the K-5 successor as well.. I wonder any insiders know anything about the K-5 successor? anything at all.... ;)

Err... I think the "other" camp is shaken liao.. Focus peaking while taking video also.... Interchangeable focusing screen... :B
Ready to have Pentaxian outing numbering 50++? :P

PS: Now, bring back all our MF lenses you dark imbeciles! :P

Read on DPreview on this: "The other oddity is that, while the K-30 offers the very fashionable 'focus peaking' manual focus aid that highlights high-contrast edges, it can't do so while shooting video. And, while part of its current popularity comes from its use for focusing manual focus lenses on mirrorless cameras, its original purpose (at which it excels), is focusing in video. Losing a key focus aid, just when you need it is a perverse limitation, to say the least."

very good news for k-x users and new users to the pentax camp. k-30 is a winner for sure!

think i will wait and see how's the k-5 successor like and the pricing differences before making a decision.

Compared the specs with K-5 and K-r at Pentax Imaging and below is my understanding of what has been cut down from K-5.

- Size and weight is between K-r and K-5, but closer to K-r
- Polycarbonate vs Magnesium alloy exterior, both is stainless steel chassis
- No top LCD
- No Microphone input and HDMI connection
- No PC Socket
- 12-bit raw instead of 14 bit
- DNG only, no PEF
- Top shutter speed of 1/6000s vs 1/8000s
- Max 6fps (up to 8 frames) vs 7fps (20 frames)
- Max ISO of 25600 vs 51200

No PEF? I didn't notice that the Q or the K-01 didn't have it either.

I don't care. I'm so getting this. As much as I love my k-r, I'm sold when I know it's weather resistant and use aa battery.

Eh! No PC and HDMI? Even the Q has USB and HDMI. Although in reality does anyone actually use them? No mic in might be a let down to those looking for a videography camera.

USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection is available on K-30. PC Socket is for studio flash, full name is Prontor-Compur, available on K20D, K-7 and K-5.

In other words no loss for mere mortals like me which I believe the camera is aimed at.

Whoa! Super nice.

K30 + New 50mm 1.8 , how much will that cost.. Est. $1200 i guess.

Wow! bro,

Many camera u will be collecting man, your new "O" on hand already?;)

Hahah bro..O still waiting..but what i want to see is the improve auto focusing first..if they have really improve on tat..i think the K5 sucessor or the future FF will sell like hotcakes but of course this is only me..Like some other think that the auto forcus does not affect their shooting its ok.But i must said Pentax is not CHEAP but Value For Money!!!! which i can said no other brand till now can compare!!!:D

If you already have a K-5, would you buy a K-30?

I've thought about it and my answer is no. Of course that may change if somehow the K-30 has significant improvement over the K-5.. But based on paper specs and the assumption that there has been no improvement in the already-excellent sensor, then no for now.

I hope the new K30 shutter is the same as K5 instead of Kr or Kx. That would really be sweet.

Finally, it indicates AF in video record mode but no dedicated record still. The package looks good especially the blue! :)
When someone finally offers me a non-low-end-compact-camera-price for my K-x, I would want to upgrade ...heh heh.
