try camera hospital over at sunshine plaza, along bencoolen street. a stone's throw away from sim lim square.

Ok thanks! :)

Perhaps TCW as well.. Not very sure. Have my own sources clean free :bsmilie:

Hopefully the fungus has not done any permanent damage.

For 55f1.2 you might need to mod to AI mount if you haven done so to use on ur DSLR.

The fungus are actually quite small around 2 to 3 small ones around 3mm in size, I'm not really sure about how much fungus is enough to damage the lens though.

Anyway the 55mm 1.2 is the 5th and last version before nikon produced the 50mm 1.2. And my d2h somehow produces a louder sound compared to my other lenses. Is it safe to use the lens?:dunno:

Loud sound?

You mean the sound of the shutter?

I can only think of lousier noise insulation by the lens.

If its the last 55 f1.2 before the 50 f1.2, then I think it should alreayd be the AI right? Then there shouldn't be any problem with mounting it on the D2H. only reason I can think of for it to have more "sound" is some loose parts in the lens. Shaking just the lens you still get some sound? I'm guessing that its unlikely your D2H mirror slapping on something protruding from the lens.

Ok thanks! :)

Most likely it's the Ai version, (the "rabbit ears" should have holes through them and not solid), if it's got a serial number of 4xxxxx and it has 5 screws on the lens mount then it is the Ai version - perfectly safe to use on your D2H. My camera produces a loader sound when I use the 50mm f/1.2 on it than other lenses.

The lens has no moving parts when i shake it so I think its the lens noise insulation that's pretty poor like what gooseberry said.

its serial number is 41X XXX and I checked some nikon lens number webby so its the AI one.:)

Too bad it aint the noct or latest version.. the CA and flare is pretty bad at 1.2 ;p

does anyone know where can i find supertele lens for nikons? be it nikon mount or nikon adaptors?

Are you asking pertaining to

1) super tele manual nikkors

or

2) super tele nikkors in general.

If you are asking about (2), then I suggest you start your own thread, and not crash a thread at random. If you are asking about (1), then I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you. :P

I can only think of either going to some 2nd hand shop, buying thru ebay or surfing buy sell.. i think there are some 300f2.8, 400 and 500mm going at BS.

Im not really into telelens.. only have a 600f4, a 400f5.6 and 100-300 :)

On a recent trip back to SG while I was digging around in my storeroom. I turned up an extremely old nikkormat EL with an equally old 55/1.2 ... unfortunately both have been ravaged severely by time :(

Organising an a outing/shoot/sharing session this saturday morning at SBG here:

If keen pls add yourselves to the list. :)

Would be interested to try out your 20mm f3.5 (planning to replace my 20mm AFD, which although does well on B&W film, looks a little ordinary especially on the corners on a D2H) and 105mm f4 micro. But lets see if I managed to buy one before I test yours out!

Still in Shanghai today, off to the US this weekend, and then to France for work. Picking up my RRS L-bracket for the D2H in New York. Will be stopping by some shops there to browse, hopefully will see some AI/AIS lenses that will attract my attention, and maybe come back with a NOCT. Let me know if anyone has a NOCT to try out this weekend!

The 105F4 is a rather good lens.

I have heard much about the 105f2.8 being better and all but i personally doubt there is a need for f2.8 for macro work as even the DOF at f4 would already be very thin. I am quite impressed by the sharpness for the 105f4 for macro. Will try to take more samples with it this sat.

The 20mmf3.5 is puzzling lens to me. I had it very long ago... Never really touched it till sometime ago i mounted it onto my Canon20D thru adaptor and very really impressed with some wide open indoor shots.. On a nikon body itself it doesnt seem that impressive. On the other hand the 180f2.8 AI which gave me a wow when i first tried on D70, seems rather normal on the 20D...

Now that is a strange phenomenon.

I also do see some strange behaviours with lenses when moving from a camera to another. Some lenses doesn't seem to perform as well optically, etc. I have not done too much digital tests on my 2 AIS zooms yet since I dont have my tripod with me right now. The primes should be alright, and I'm more interested in testing the AIS zooms since I dont think too many people like to have them. AIS primes seems to be the rage.

Funny, Just last weekend I noticed that when I mate the 25-50mm f4 AIS to a D2H, the aperture ring doesn't click anymore when you get to the round number apertures (i.e. f11, f8, f5.6, etc). It works well on my film camera, and works well off camera. My other AIS lenses clicks well with the D2H.

Now that is a strange phenomenon.

Does the adapter have any optical elements in it? If there is, then nI'm not surprised. If not, then it may be due to the rear projection angle interaction with the AA filter.

As for the click thing, check to see if there is a pin to disengage the click, I think some older lenses have something like that, otherwise the fear is that it may have rested too tightly on the coupling ring.

F mount to EOS doesnt require it.

Its FD to EOS that requires and why i stayed away from FD mount lens.

The same lens will perform differently on different DSLRs (different sensors, even if the same sensor, it may have a different filter pack on the front). That's why some reviewers give a different rating for the lens depending on the camera used.
