Just wondering..Any nikonians crazy over manual nikkors like me and still use them?

That is a very good question how does the old timer(pre AF time) do it. :thumbsup: :dunno:

Because last time there were no AF or AF-S to compare with. Plus there are focusing aids like microprism and split image... plus lots of fast lenses which snaps easily into focus very obviously... I think it has to do with the design of the focusing screen also. Now the laser matte screens are hard to judge focusing with, even DoF cannot be easily seen. Most of the time the DoF on the image is much thinner than what we see through the VF.

True also... I noticed at f2 or larger, what I see in the viewfinder (F4 or D2H) is not exactly the same depth of field as in the resulting image... usually the image itself is much shallower. Maybe also in the past, manual users have a much higher % of misses due to focusing. When I have important shots now I tend to do some focus bracketing. Just to be sure I hit the target.

Yah, could use f8 or f16, but when you have f1.4, why waste it for closeup?

Not very economical to develop so many exposures? :dunno:

Then for 1 photo, you have to shoot and develop 10 shots. Bracket focus. Bracket exposure too while you are at it?

Been manual focusing decade ago since my Mamiya SLR days...

Those were the good days.. We were force to make every shot count..
36 "rounds", but always hoping for the 37th if lucky enough
every shot has to be one shot one kill.
Every other photographer is serious, knows his stuff and has something for you to learn from.
Unlike these days... all that sh!t around you, people who have the ability to make the images from an SLR look as good as my camera phone. :cry:

Switch to CH on the camera, Manual focus till you are near then do hi speed continous shooting while you turn the focus ring very slowly. You should get at least 1-2 shots in focus. But this is desperate measure. I haven never done it and would not recommend.

i dont get what you mean...

If your lens is AIS you wont get metering on D50.

But then again 50mm on D50 is about 75mm on FM2..

AI & AIS lenses can't be metered on the non-pro bodies i.e D50, D70/s.

Really? I saw a few eBay ads that had AIS lens advertised to be compatible with the metering of the D80, so I assumed there would be some which would work with the D50. So would it work with the D80?

I dun think so. The D80 would probably still be able to do a spot metering with a Non-Cpu lens. But currently only the D200 and the Pro bodies can do matrix metering (and only when you input the lens data onto the camera)
