Jumping ship to Canon

This shows how little u understand Sony.

Unlike nikon and canon which depends largely on their camera and consumer electronics business for profits, Sony is a company which has much diverse business plans (microchips, movies, gaming, consumer electronics etc just to name a few). The difference between Sony and canikon or other camera makers is that Sony has a much much stronger financial might.

When a normal company comes out with a new product, they usually will diverge manpower and resources from their factory to work on the new product.

But not Sony.

When Sony decides to produce Nex, they opened a new factory specially for Nex production, instead of making them in existing alpha dslr production factories. Sony can do this sort of thing because they got the money to do it. Therefore its no problem at all for Sony to work on both Nex and Alpha production. I think the Nex factories are just a minor financial strain on Sony's piggy bank, it isn't gonna affect the alpha productions at all. if anything, the nex, together with the new Interchangable Lens Video Camera (coming out end of the year), will boost sales of alpha lenses, which in turn will generate alpha based profits for Sony.

Nex isn't killing alpha. It will help alpha instead.

..... oh no... here we go again...
i think I should sell everything and buy shares in Sony, coz it looks like they're gonna take over the world :D

Im no expert in shares, but i think unless u R rich, its not wise to buy shares of big companies. More profitable to buy smaller companies shares.

How much do you know of Canon as a company? I have known them, worked with and against them for the past 50 years and I think it's silly of you to just put them off with a one line statement. They have been in imaging business since 60s, became one of the big 3 in the micrographic industry in the 70s, a leader in the photo copying and business machines industry up till now, film and videos, especially in the professional video and now digital television equipment industry. If you trace them back and understand how they evolve, you will understand their strength in both digital imaging and photography. I have known and competed against them when I was with 3M and Kodak and understood why they single-handedly put the 2 American giants to shame in the digital imaging industry. That's about 50 years of legacy and experience. Yes I am a Canon FF DSLR user and I think EVILs are still toys.

To trivalize market leading companies without full understanding of their business and financials is not a smart thing to do. It sounds more like fanboy talk. Sony is financially strong and diverse, yes. But that doesn't mean they will win in every industry they choose to enter. To think that this is so and that the business world is so simple, just goes to show the lack of business sense. ;)

That said, Sony has made huge strides in the DSLR market. I personally think NEX and EVILs has a place in the market but it is not the holy grail that will be the answer to entire high end, IQ camera market. In fact it comes in between the DSLRs and the PnS market segments. Sort of the 'real' bridge camera market...

TS better close this thread before all the fanboys start a fight.

Not sure what is there to argue when most agree that what works for you may not work for me and there are many out there who thinks that they can capitalise on others' lenses and thinking that using cameras from some big names will make their pictures better. :nono:

Hi ismokeweed79 ,

Please consider with sigma dslr SD-14 , will u ? It's the best dslr so far , even cany or noky can't compete with this one .
The best lens ever still sigma , and apply with the best dslr body also , with same brand as sigma ; it will get the best picture with the best IQ .

And, yet another fanboy emerges.....

I like Maling luncheon meat. I think it is the best. When packed in Maling branded Cans, the luncheon meat is unbeatable! Since Maling has the best pigs and the best cans... it will give you the best luncheon meat in the can.

If it come down to feeling... we should be comparing the same class of camera rather than a class higher up. If you are talking about your A230... it should be compared to 1000D (Canon) or D3000 (Nikon). Then you will know if the feel is better. If you want the feel of the 500D, then it should be compared to A350. If you want the feel of 40/50D then you have to find a semi-pro Sony DSLR (and so on and so for). Whats the use of comparing a A230 with a camera that is obviously one stage higher than it from a competitor brand?

@ Anthony Lee

IMO, the Sony NEX is a poor example of EVIL cameras - it is more focused towards the P&S shooter wanting a better quality camera in continuing to "point and shoot" in auto mode.

Better examples would be the Samsung NX10, Panasonic G2 and Olympus EP series, where full manual controls and other features are available. These cameras are enthusiast level and definitely not toys!

IMO, you need to get out into the sun a bit more. EVIL cameras does not imply "full manual controls". EVIL is a basic technological concept.

If pure image quality is the main concern, I'd pick the NEX-5. If full manual controls is the main concern, I'd skip all EVIL cameras and go for a full DSLR, where I can get full manual controls *and* uncompromised image quality.

Yes , of course . Samsung NX10 is the best point and shoot gear so far , even the Samsung Omnia is better than iphone or the Samsung aircond also good .

TS i am sure u have gathered enough info la. everyone has different opinions, in the end still up to u. Grass may or may not be greener on the other side, but as long as u know what u r doing.

I am a covet shooter that jump ship quietly, to avoid all the exciting fireworks and bangs!

agreed. when such a sensitive topic(jumping ship) is up on such a forum, its bound to meet biased opinions and perspectives. what the TS can do is to try and filter out the most objective views and not buy just because of another person's strong views towards or against a certain brand. do your research on the cameras and make up your mind on the best option. after all, its your choice and only you can convince yourself you made the right choice, so think hard to ensure you made the choice all right.

having said that, i love my A500 and still think its best among its price range.

see what i mean?
