John 3:16

That said how can a reputable shop do that ? Huh.... So can they be thrusted or not? One more thing I want to ask all of you all, John 3:16 allows you to try lenses and bodies right? How do you know that the piece that you have been trying has not been used by other people? Quite scary in my opinion!!!
won't we look like a hypocrite if we want to try out lenses and bodies before we buy but at the same time when we are actually buying, we only want virgin ones. Don't think you can have the cake and eat it.

Then you don't buy from John 3: 16.

I was at MS color to buy a lens. The first lens, to me, color is not right and not sharp. Then try the second lens. No issue so I took it. I was told by MS color that the lens that don't work for me may work for other type of body or another body. No sure truth or not but then sure need to try before buy. If cannot try then to me not a good enough shop.

second this bro.

many want the "new piece" after they try a "display piece"

and anw, J316's stocks move fast, so probably your body or lens has not been tested more then a handful of times.

he also does not allow hoods to be placed on, so honestly, even if it's been tested it should still be in tiptop condish.

yeah, if we all want to touch touch before we buy, then how ? When I got my 500D, I asked for a new set and it was precisely what I got. Now, I'm waiting for my 7D from them, have wondered about it but I guess, in essence, nothing is new. SOmeone had to pack it, someone had to test it ... I guess its always just dumb luck if we get something flawed or not.
I have got a my 70-300 from a place in the heartlands (popular place) but the lens comes with a long faint mark along the inner barrel. Asked them if its ok, they said it was and voila, living with it since ...

that happened to me too. when i got the E30 and 12-60 lens from them, the warranty card inside the box has a different serial for the lens. sure thing I checked the warranty card.

john 316 gives great service. But i have to say they are very messy when it gets busy! Cos when they take cameras out of the boxes for customers to test, out comes the warranty cards and leave it on the table and it gets mixed out with the others cards etc. Almost got my card D50 card mixed up with a D500. Lucky i checked before i left!

I had an experience with John 3:16 as well.
The Canon EF-S 55-250mm was given a wrong warranty card, one that differs from the box and lens serial number.
Didn't notice until I wanted to registered for Canon's warranty. Went back and one of the guy practically searched through an entire file of warranty cards.
Apparently, they keep tons of warranty card. I don't know why but my original one must have been placed in some other box that was sold.

Awaiting a replaced warranty card from Canon, requested through John 3:16.

Whether it's a reputable shop or not, make sure you check the lens, check the warranty card serial number, check the serial number on the box.
Sometimes it might not be the fault of John 3:16 cause they will take stocks from AP or other nearby shops just to seal a deal. Sometimes it might be a human error as John 3:16 allows testing of equipment and the shop can get really messy. In any case, I won't be buying new stuff from them unless it's bags or small acessories. Looking at the number of hands molesting their new on the shelf equipment is rather daunting to me.

The "display piece" is usually sold as someone's "new piece" :)
Be wary when you're offered a slightly more generous discount off the last piece.
Even so, the last piece tactic will always move the "display piece".

How do you know that the piece that every one else has been trying is not placed at the back of the shop? Then claimed to be new to the buyer..?? Well not to be so ANTI john 3;16 but these are the sort of things that run through my mind... Just a food for thought.. :)

Pls don't get me wrong.. Just my opinion.. not to be negative or insulting to anyone..

J316 offers very good customer service and I would say they are one shop that do not show "black face" after testing a lens. They are also very generous in opinions and feedback regarding certain camera model or lenses (their personal opinions, of course)

Having said that, I also agree that they are quite dis-organised. I left my 350D, one kit lens and one tele-zoom with them when I "upgrade" to 400D as consignment for them to sell. Understand it has been unsuccessful and when I tried to recover them back to pass on to my colleague, they could not find in as it was moved to their warehouse. Sam and his dad has been helpful trying to comb their warehouse but till date to no avail.

Other than this, they are really a nice bunch of people to know.

I go to Cathay, MS Color, TK Foto and John 3:16. All of them allow testing of lenses. There is no way you're going to get an unused lens. And there shouldn't be a reason why you would need to bother, because unless someone damages it, lenses don't degrade in quality over a few hours.

Thats why we test lens and view lenses, to check that there is no problem.

I got my lens from Paris Silk at holland. I am quite sure I got a "new" piece. Coz when I ask to test it .. they don't allow. Only allow me to touch it ...

Similarly when I bought my D3 with them. they don't allow testing except touching. And as the story goes .. I came back home, extracted the exif file from the first shot I took ... the shuttercount showed 0001 from the KUSO exif FIle reader .

I'm going to try Parisilk next time. Almost all of my stuff was bought from JOHN 3:16

Problem is when ever you go back, they just say "Hi bro" and they don't even bother to help you. Old time customers don't get service. You just have to wait and wait and wait, till the shop is a little free, then you can ask your question. Else you can wait till next year and you get nothing in return.

Service has really dropped big time:thumbsd::thumbsd::thumbsd:

Parisilk service should be decent.. after all

They are a family business based on family values

I once got a new lens from John 3:16. It was the Olympus 70-300. How did I know it was new? Well...the delivery guy just brought it in while I was lingering around. heh. Most virgin purchase ever. Unless someone fiddled with it at the factory...or enroute, or the delivery guy...errr...nevermind =p

"Hi Bro" = wait for your number :bsmilie:
