Actually I have no idea why he owes you an apology. He was just commenting that its rare that people uses CPL for 52mm and he can order it for you if you wan it.

I have heard of people asking for items that costs $10 or item that costs few thousand dollars and he responded in a similar fashion. It doesn't matter big or small bucks to them.

And if you really get good C&C for your good shot of the sunset with your CPL, you shouldn't be so sensitive bro. :)

The point is he could have just sell what the customer wants instead of mocking at him... Which I sometimes encounter too.. I want a 52mm UV filter for the 50mm prime I bought from him and he say "no need to put and even if u wanna put, put a better one like Hoya HMC UV (more expensive)... "

Another instance i bought a UWA from him also.. i say i just want a normal UV filter... and he start recommending CPL on a UWA... well... just give wat the customer is asking for la! instead of commenting and suggesting things and most importantly: PERSIST the customer to buy. I wanted to just pay for the UWA without the filter but he persisted that i buy the CPL from him. I was in a rush and end up no choice and paid extra $170 for the filter... (when I could have just used a normal slim filter for $90?)

When I buy things I prefer sellers who respect buyer's decision and not persist someone to buy what he thinks customers should buy...

Someone ought to tell the salesman in 3:16 that he talk too much ****. Just sell what the customer wants. Give recommendation only when customer asked for it.

Persisting the customer to buy something else is very wrong.

I actually laughing out loud when I read your response.

You have many bad experiences with this shop and you still go back and buy from them? What's wrong with you? And then to top things off, you are being" persisted" into getting the CPL from him? Did he grapped the money from your wallet? How can one force another adult to buy something when one does not want? Or, did he give it to you FOC and force you to have it? I think that will be the only way I will get that CPL if I were you.

To make things straight, I've visited them only 2 times (the 2nd time was a goodwill one to give them a 2nd chance) and I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.

I did mention clearly that "persisted" means he can just keep telling u all the bullshit abt tat good filter and wasting/delaying your time while he 'entertains' other customer (FYI I was at the shop for 1 whole hour for purchase of a simple lens). For me, time is money and chop chop I come, I buy and I go. I hate ppl wasting my time recommending other stuff that I AM NOT LOOKING FOR. Just give me the things I want and I pay! The thing is I keep TELLING SAM I don't need the filter but he wasted 20 mins of my time talking to other customers and when its my turn he would "buy this cpl! your pictures would look good! trust me!". And he opened the CPL on the spot making it seem like I must buy. If u're me, and he keep "wasting' your time and u keep 'persisting' not to buy the filter at all and he open a few more filter for u to see... and keep saying 'trust him'.... what would u do? oh well.... nothing that I say can change the mind of his die-hard fan....

And, dun try to create a stupid scenario to make me look stupid. I've visited MSC, Cathay, SLR many times and NEVER ENCOUNTERED THAT PROBLEM BEFORE. John seems like the only doing that..... and there are many die-hard supporters like you willing to defend and pay for their mostly overcharged items (overcharged by at least 10-20% more). luck to you! I'll never repeat my mistakes again.

I have been to John 3:16 at least five times to purchase items ranging from small accessories to camera bodies. Although the prices are higher(sometimes they're lower than others, it depends), they have never tried to push-sell anything to me. When I asked to purchase something, I got the item without much fuss. Yes, service is slow as the shop is understaffed. If you dread the long waiting times, learn to pay up and go when it's your turn to be served. If you ask questions, you're only going to end up waiting even longer :dunno:

First let me get things straight. I have done ONE transaction with John 3:16 all my life. I am no die-hard fans there. What I am saying is nothing to do with being a die-hard fan. Just straight common sense which I failed to understand from your "persisting CPL" incident.

Now, you asked me what I will do if I were in your situation. Here is what I will do - When I decided on the purchase of the lens, I will tell them ok, I will take the lens. And if he keep "persisting" on the CPL, I will use your words above to let him know I am not interested. Such as:

For me, time is money and chop chop I come, I buy and I go. I hate ppl wasting my time recommending other stuff that I AM NOT LOOKING FOR. Just give me the things I want and I pay!
Did you say those words to him as you are telling us here? I am sure if you uttered that sentence to him, anyone in their right mind will just ring up the cashier and give you the lens.

Even if he continue to pester you. Did anyone prevent you from walking out of the door and go somewhere else to buy the lens? Is it not like this is the sole agent who sale something you want and you have not other shops to go to, right? So, why didn't you just walk out when you are so pissed?

That is something I don't understand because I will tell them straight to their face to not waste my time and will walk out of the shop if he continues.

I think you are being too nice and that is something you have to deal with yourself.

john 3:16's service is okla...

am not really one for conversations..i do my research beforehand and go to a shop...ask...test for focusing issues and buy it...dun wanna hang around in 1 shop for too long...

sometimes it irks me that shops think all consumers arent educated in cameras

lol... i think pretty easy to upsell u things... hehe.

nv had such a prob with any shops. buy wat u want and leave... anything else, go back again next time. :)

The thread seems like going no where.

Let me just sum it up for you guys:

1. John 3:16 is not the cheapest store.

2. John 3:16 does not give the best service.

Move on!

interesting that after a shop providing low price and no tricks despite being owned by a notorious shop's owner, there is a lot of cyber bashing on john 316.

granted that john does not provide the best price (they get their shops elsewhere anyway - not directly from nikon/canon) and that they can be a bit talkative and seemingly rude (if u r not used to it),

but can u image singapore's photography scene without john316?

think about it.

disclaimer: i am in no way related to any of the camera dealers in singapore. I have previously made purchases John316, SLR Revolution, AP, CP and even Bally; and received no special attention from them. I am just commenting on the state of health of the Singaporean photography scene.

Does it matter whether does any photography shop in SG survives or not?

Photography will continue even if there is no one selling any photography equipment.

Rubbish! Lots of people do not buy from John 3:16. There wont be less photogs even if 3:16 closes, there are many other shops around (And new ones emerging)

Used to get my items from John 3:16 but now I guess I won't go there anymore...

I had a not so nice experience with John 3:16 earlier on...
Was there to look for my 7D battery grip... asked for the price and was quoted much higher as compare to other shop (I guess around $20-30 bucks diff as compare to other store front).

Frankly speaking I don't mind the pricing diff since everywhere seem to be out of stock.
As usual John 3:16 is swam with customers... thus I went off to Cathay Photo to get something and thinking of coming back later to check for more info on the battery grip purchase.

15mins later I am back at John 3:16, I ask to take a look at the 7D battery grip...
Guess what. the salesman who attend to me and told me they do not have stock for the battery grip.

This really leave me in question as 15 mins before I left John 3:16 they told me they have stocks and are able to quote me the prices...

And when looking around I can see there are 4-5 boxes of Canon BG-E7 Battery Grip...
It really leave me in wonder is it they really do not have stock or do not want to show me the battery grip before I decide to make my purchases...

take their words with a pinch of salt ..especially when it comes to asking about equipment that you want to purchase.

i still remember wanting to buy a thinktank Pixel Racing Harness, but i got news that a revised version was going to replace the old one.
then i asked, when the revised version comming.
salesperson still reply sarcastically saying everything also will have upgrade, like i trying to be funny like that.... and 2 mths later Pixel Racing Harness V2.0 was released... haha

another case is when i wanted to but a markins plate to mount mount my Lens, i for got to take dow the model no.
so the sales person say :"i got use also, its this one, confirm...."
so i went back to check it out. AND THE MODEL WAS A DIFFERENT ONE.
in the end feeling "smoked" i went back to ask the sales person why he recommended me a different model.
and he said:" oh, can also use on that lens mah" ......i wanted to "FACE PALM " myself ....
but he did offer to change for me , but also gave that unsatisfied look....

i still thinking , who ask you don't tell me the whole picture, and just wanteded to rush and do the sales.

wah! this John 3:16, four pages long :o

must go down ans see myself what's the fuss :bsmilie:

but can u image singapore's photography scene without john316?

think about it.

huh? care to share what's your opinion on Singapore's photography scene without john316?:bsmilie:

I only went to john316 once and i'm also one of the unsatisfied customers who will never go there again. The wait is far too long. They hold the record of "longest time before i manage to sales person's attention".

Hi, I have a similar experience with liveevil. I went there once and I will never go back there again. The key person there seems to enjoy patronising customers. Maybe he is a top photographer but that is no way to talk to a customer.

PS: I had bought things from CP, OP and MS Colour.

Ok, sam's shop is seriously understaffed

and even when i go, i have to wait for 2 hours for my lens, and finally he told me that his father did not put the lens in the storehouse

and i was like oh... ok.

sometimes even regulars get bad treatment

but of course, there are plenty of other shops to go, and i'm sure one will fit you:)
