[Jerrick] Occasional Long Exposure Shots

Good effort for #25!
Keep it up.

Thanks Fable!

Sky and clouds were marvelous that day. Unfortunately the clouds blocked the sun partially too (somewhere in the middle to the left).

This is my first manually blended photo as well, following the guide by Edutilos here. Actually GND filters can do the job in this picture, but manual blend can cover areas not limited by the two parts as defined by the GND filters.

Attempted manual blending once again. Relatively more tiring than usual LR edits but I must say it's much more useful!
If you actually look closer at the top of the museum, you can see bits of uneven blending, due to the fact that I didn't know there was a feature where I can make it soft until I actually explored Photoshop. By the time I realised my mistake I was halfway done already. Will probably try blending once again.

Also, the boat trails could not have been possible if not for the blending method. I strongly recommend everyone to try it!

Blue Hour

4 images manually blended
1 for sky, 1 for buildings, 2 for boat trails

Found something from my archive. Hope to shoot more but now's the busy period at school :(

Attempted the 1:2.39 Cinematic crop here :)

Interesting shot.

Yeah I think it's the crop!

Waiting for bus to come and saw the cranes so I thought why not try this? Unfortunately as camera was in portrait position and I did not tighten it, the camera shifted, causing the photos to be mis-matched and not aligned, so I couldn't merge the light trails :(

This was quite a difficult shot to take because the partial floating platform was moving all the time. So if I were to take a long exposure shot, it would be very blur. So I had to take 2 separate images, one for the building and the water. Quite a tedious effort blending again, but practice makes perfect!

2 images blended. 1/20 sec and 15 sec

I like the effect which you achieved here =) Very interesting. p/s Is the horizon slanted btw?

yeah the horizon is a bit slanted! But if I shift the buildings into such a way that it is straight, the foreground will then be slanted too as they are not parallel. So I decided to find a balance between the two and try to make it as straight as possible :)

A photo taken when I was in Korea. Miss that place. Since it was taken behind a window and the picture was blur, might as well attempt this pseudo-tilt shift technique.

Another one taken from Shanghai. The windows were far more dirty this time (as you can see from the bottom right hand corner). Can't achieve the effect that I want it to. Probably will try it next time again.

I think you should try harder..:) In this case, you have quite serious geometric distortion along with vertical and horizontal perspective. You can quite easily correct all these under lens correction and of course you image will become smaller but more presentable to the viewer. Below is a just a quick example (I will delete this soon.)

On image #28 and in the right frame, there is a patch and this is not done properly... again, need to pay more attention to details and perhaps patience too. One has to make sure that the image is done reasonably well and complete before presentation.

Thanks for your advice! I think I'll tweak around with the lens correction function. Didn't know it can correct this! As for #28, I can't really find the patch that is not done properly. I only think that the borders around SAM can be done better :)

Image #28: If you look all the way to the right, there is a patch on the sky just at the top of that building, which is not blended properly.

Ohhhhh I just realised. Don't know how I manage to miss out on that part. I will re-blend the picture again. Thanks for your critique.

For Image #32 it might be better to straighten up the horizon and the verticals. Just my 2 cents :) Cheers!

Yep I will try to edit once I have time!

Finally have time to shoot again after such a busy week. Decided to check out i Light Marina Bay and I was amazed by the lights! I have also entered this photo for the iLight Marina Bay photo competition, so if you have Facebook and think this picture is nice, please vote for me! Thanks a lot!
