newkidontheblk: at least your dark edges look more balanced than mine!

anyway, I have checked with Canon, and they give me the (lame) reason that the flash is too near, etc. Reasons I don't really accept since my previous Ixus did not give me such a problem. Now new Ixus, worse than the previous? Why the design flaw? Since he say it's not hardware problem, I complain complain also no use, right? Their attitude is that there is nothing they can do, I just have to live with this. ok LOR.
hi, why don't you show them my pic, or when you are at Canon, just ask them to shoot at a white wall with their test set and compare. perhaps the diff will show. good luck.

Wat about battery life? How many shots is it capable off with lcd on all the times and the occasional flash? Thanx.

GOT MY BRAND NEW TOY!!!

I have a question on the SD card though.
SO basically I am asking to check if anybody KNOWS the technical setup or may have tested a 120x speed versus a normal on the Ixus 800IS. Cos don't want to spend 2x the price for the speed if I am not gona reap the returns of the investment. ;P If its pointless, then I might as well get a 2nd Battery correct? :)

Hope someone can shed some light. I've also post this question to Canon technical team as well. :)
i do not know the tech specs, but just how fast are can you shoot?
I would think a normal speed card would do or at most a 80X card

120X is overkill

Hiya.. Been wanting to post since I've checked with CANON on SD card interface speed.

I was adviced by Canon Technical team that IXUS 800IS are supportable for card interfaces up to 50x WRITE.

We will look at WRITE speed as this is the main factor affecting saving the image you take. So if you buy a standard card from SanDisk for example, the interface speed will only be 30 or 33x WRITE.
Hence I've settled for the 60X WRITE and 66X READ SAN DISK ULTRA as I don't mind paying the premium if it improves the quality of the image (learned from SanDisk engineer although he told me that the standard card is good enough).
The benefits of using a faster interface card is that it optimises the saving of videos (not so much on shooting bro ortega)... With a faster interace. ALso according to San Disk guy (I stress.. he recommended NORMAL speed) that the speed would also affect the image quality (Slightly) but not significantly. So to each on its own... For me, I go for faster speed as it gives me option to use my card for other cameras. :)

Canon engineer adviced me to buy SanDisk as they've experienced sporadic problems with other manufactuers (so far no problem from SanDisk and Toshiba).

Just my feedback. I do not work in any of these companies... so please no flaming.. I do car parts trading.. just a shutter-bug hobbist.

CHEERS!!!

oh thanks for the info

thank goodness i bought the 80X card
not for the video but for slight future proof
I try not to be on the bleeding edge

Agree that it is advisable to buy a card that is at least 50x for various reasons which I shall not go into. For me, my cards are 120x and 133x.

But faster card = better image quality??? That's new to me. A slower card simply means that your camera will take a longer time to save the image taken onto the card. This will either mean a slower continuous shooting speed or in some cases, the continuous shooting or video will not work because the card is not fast enough for the camera. But the picture quality should be exactly the same for slow or fast cards. It's just bullsh*t by the Sandisk guy.

Sandisk is more marketing/price than performance. I prefer Lexar or Kingston over Sandisk anytime. But if you feel better using Sandisk, by all means buy Sandisk.
