Ixus 800 IS

How about the tactile feel of the buttons of the IXUS 800 IS? Are they good/solid?

I find the Ixus800 to be intuitive.

As for buttons, the only thing I'm a bit disappointed is the small ON/OFF button. They could have made it more accessible by placing it on top of the cam, like the 60 or 65 (if I remember correctly).

Do u prefer a slightly smaller cam or lighter one? If so go for the 60. If u like something extra, like IS and 4x zoom, then the 800 offers that.

saxo74, here is a side-by-side comparison between IXUS 800 IS and IXUS 60.
The main difference that I can see (other than the price) is the IS, optical zoom. The rest of it are pretty much the same.

May I know what is the price difference between the two?

I have change Ixus 60 to 800 IS & I paid S$150 more for the difference, I read some review about IXUS 60 when taking photo with flash light, the 4 sides will be dark for donno what reason. There are so many good comments/review for the 800 IS which make me decide & go for it.

The darkening of the 4 sides with flash light happens to IXUS800 also. I think it's the lack of flash power or whatever. I'm quite surprised when I saw it. But have to remind myself it's a "toy/fun" camera. Can't expect too much. There is also quite a bit of barrel distortion at the wide end.

But image quality wise, I really have no complaints. I bought and love it more than other brands. Other than size/weight, IS and extra zoom, everything else on the 60 should be the same as the 800.

Actually what I would complain about would be the lack of controls, lack of the Tv, Av and real Manual modes... haha....whatever controls that are left, are all pretty intuitive and easy to manupilate. Too little controls to manupilate for my tastes

Actually, I thought that is the whole point of the Ixus series. Stylish, elegant, a few intuitive buttons. Style over performance. If you put too many buttons, it becomes cluttered. Most Ixus users do not need these Tv AV buttons. Will confuse them, I think.

Need to distinguish this series from the PowerShot series where it is performance over style.

size is relative... if your friend have large fingers, small cameras may not be the best option.

Har.. U mean till now u are still undecided about the cam ah? Hee...

The only complaint I have abt the button is that the the ON/OFF switch is small and not placed strategically. It helps to use the small tip area of your finger to press it. But it's not that bad. Just a minor complaint. Otherwise, the rest of the buttons are all right to me.

Must remember the cam is small to begin with. It's not quite logical to have big buttons on a small and cute cam. Something got to give. Either u got to reduce the 2.5" LCD screen, have fewer buttons (dump more functions in the Menu *dread*) or simply increase the size of the cam! (Then it won't be so small anymore.)

Guys especially with really huge hands might take some effort to press some of the buttons.

Best is to try handling the cam yourself to get a feel for it.

I agree with you on the fact that you mentioned that somethings got to give when the LCD 'grows.' An IXUS will have have foot-print of a credit card, hence there is not much space.
I personally did a hands-on trail only on last Saturday (24 Jun. 2006). I liked it.

i love it too.. no issue with the buttons... what i like best is the great pics, esp the colors..

Hiya.. am thinking of getting the Ixus 800IS as well. Cos we are expecting our kid soon and it would be great to have a camera like the 800IS with you when you need it and to capture those precious moments.

However, although being a Canon supporter, I am pondering for compactness and image quality, how does the 800IS measure to the Nikon S3 or the Casios?

Hope someone can give me some insights??
