Hi ricleo,

Surprised to see u sold your 800! I guess u wanted a more wide angle coverage? Which cam are u considering?

I wish for wide angle too, but so far, my little research showed that for slim cams, only the Panasonic FX01 comes closest but unfortunately the noise is below my expectation. I guess 35mm is still kind of ok for me given it's a compact cam.

hehehe yea, i really liked the little camera, good image quality, reasonable noise performance and IS, but want something wider, hee..now considering getting an untrawide lens for my dslr, or a LX-1 :) more noise in the image for the LX-1, but at least it has a true 16:9 ratio 28mm, quality leica lens

oic... U mean the Canon 800 IS is not a true 16:9? Just cropped images?

ixus is 35mm wide only, and cropping the top and bottom off to get 16:9,hence not a true wide screen sensor :p

LX-1 is 28mm at 16:9 ratio, if u wanna use 3:2 mode(post card size), it will be 30+mm.

FX-01 has the best implementation. true 28mm at 4:3/3:2/16:9 mode. crop off top and bottom for 16:9. For LX-1, you cant get 28mm if u shoot at any mode other than 16:9, but good if your're really in love with the 16:9 ratio like me, haha.... If only FX-1 had a better sensor...

Cheh... So the 800IS not a true 16:9...

Yah, I wish the FX-1 sensor were much more decent. It's not just noise at ISO200 and above. Some user reviews I read say for most indoor shots when light is pretty low, the noise shows up even at low ISO. That's bad. Guess we can't have the best of everything huh.

The LX-1 is bukly to me for a compact. I want a "fun" camera that I can conveniently hide in my pocket or bag. I already own a DSLR so I want a compact cam that is small but with reasonable image quality. I like the size of the Panasonic FX series but man, they got to do something about their noise issue.

Since u have the 350D, if u are serious about getting wide or ultra wide angles shots, I'd recommend the 10-22mm. Not cheap, but good quality.

actually for the ixus 800 IS/FX-01, it does not matter that it is not true 16:9, that's because at least there is an option to use it at it's widest angle at 4:3 mode when there is a need for you to do so.

For the LX-1, it is true 16:9 native 28mm, and to get 4:3 or 3:2 mode, cropping is done on the left and right of the image, which reduces the 28mm to a 36mm at 4:3 if i remember correctly. If given a choice, i'll take the FX-01/Ixus 800 16:9 implementation over the LX:1 native implementation.

hehehe currently considering the canon 10-22, but just wonder how often i'll use it... haha

Yah, I agree with u.

Actually I prefer the "traditional" 3:2 view, cos it's easier for me to make 4R prints without having to crop. Think I'm favoring the 800IS a lot more. Will wait to see if they have good offers coming up at the IT fair.

Nice shots you have there, ricleo. Looks like the IXUS 800 IS is a solid performer.

did he not just bought it recently? your turnover is fast!

hehheheheh yup, got it as a holiday camera and it served it's purpose well :) sold it to fund other lens purchases. The DSLR is still my main equipment. Need a wider lens. If in the end i dun get a wider lens due to lack of usage, perhaps a wider lens compact like the LX-1
