Now that they're announced, interested to see review and samples...

This is what Bjorn Rorslett has to say after attending the conference in Tokyo

"The new D3 has high-ISO performance beyond what anyone could imagine possible. I could hardly believe my eyes."

I would like to see sample images of the ISO-25600 heh. I hope all the reviewers are busy typing and posting it up as we speak.

did he mentioned the D300 high ISO performance?

So does it mean I can sell my 17-35 f2.8 to get the 14-24 & 24-70 ?

i believe that will no doubt be the case. smart thinking of nikon not to join the megapixel race but to enlarge photosites on the CCD instead. other than brilliant noise control (a result of bigger photosites), what would be interesting is the new EXPEED processor. if the NR works well with the new processsor nikonians will be in for a truly refreshing experience.

I will not be surprised. With a 15% larger pixel receptors, it is highly possible. I reckon, the image quality will be close to MF digital backs! ;p

D3 still no ISO 50 or 100. Lowest is 200. High ISO 25600..... Very interesting

i think D300 high ISO performance have to bank on the new processor's ability to perform NR. since the size of CCD (CMOS now) never change the physical size of the photosites remains the same. that's one of the, if not the most, important factors of noise.

Nikon Full Frame Digital SLR!!!

In terms of the competition, where is the D3 pitched at? (the D300 is clearly squarely aimed at the 40D)

D3 is full frame, but has less megapixels than the 1DsMkIII but shoots at 9FPS, whereas both the IDsMkIII and 5D shoot much slower. The 1DsMkIII costs a lot more and the 5D costs a lot less. Looks to me like Nikon want this to be the "all in one" pro camera both for sports shooters and portrait/ landscapers. I guess if the Image quality of the D3 is equal or exceeds the 1DsMkIII then the D3, at a lot less money and with more features, a bargain :)
