In terms of the competition, where is the D3 pitched at? (the D300 is clearly squarely aimed at the 40D)

D3 is full frame, but has less megapixels than the 1DsMkIII but shoots at 9FPS, whereas both the IDsMkIII and 5D shoot much slower. The 1DsMkIII costs a lot more and the 5D costs a lot less. Looks to me like Nikon want this to be the "all in one" pro camera both for sports shooters and portrait/ landscapers. I guess if the Image quality of the D3 is equal or exceeds the 1DsMkIII then the D3, at a lot less money and with more features, a bargain :)

and the important thing..Nikkor lenses..:thumbsup::bsmilie:

1DmkIII.

D3X will be released at a later date with higher MP count.

So does it mean I can sell my 17-35 f2.8 to get the 14-24 & 24-70 ?

On FF, it is already 1mm wider than the 12mm on DX sensor.....so unless you want wider than that :D Don't forget you will also forgo the 24-35mm range

But I will go for it if money is no issue, if not just make do with my precious lah :D

Wah..to day D3 release..and u start D3X rumour liao..
But ur rumours always turn reality one..

zai la! LIVERPOOL!!!

i no need to start. i already know. hahahahahaha

I think CSI prop unit also have to upgrade their cam body in the up coming season....now crime scene in Nikon FF....couple with the new AFS 12-24 lens and shoot at ISO 25600....no criminal can escape liao....scared or not

1DmkIII.

How long did it take for the D2Xs to be released, from the date the D2X was released? maybe we can expect a similar time period.

If the D3 is fighting against the 1DMkIII, on paper, the D3 is clearly superior (fps 1 less than MIII though); D3 is FF and MkIII 1.3X crop.

I think the timeline is 6 month from now. Should look at the period between D2H and D2X. 1DsMkIII is about to be announced.

Nikon and Canon are clearly such good friends. 1DmkIII < D3 < 1DsmkIII < D3X... ;p

*fingers crossed* ... hopefully next yr the consumer FF fm nikon will be out. :sweatsm:

1DsMkIII is already announced. Also announced together is 40D.

What a fight between monstrous dSLRs of the 2 big camps. :bsmilie:

I guess by then, some other cams would be announced ................ to make you procrastinate and to confuse you further .....

D3 is noisy....

What Bjorn said is interesting...cant wait.

Well, these dSLRs are tempting, but not enough to cause people to swap camps...

I feel it's more of a simple counter to canon's new 1D mk3 and 1Ds Mk3. The D3 fits right in between these 2 cameras in terms of sensor and speed, which is a move to prevent nikon users from jumping ship to canon for the new pro bodies.

Kudos to nikon, and I hope nikon users will enjoy these 2 new dSLRs!
