I'm a little surprised that there's no ISO100 for both D3 and D300. Maybe we'll see it in the enhanced models, like D3x and D300x?

hmm....don't know if my wife would see the difference if I upgrade from D200 to D300 besides looking at the model number on the body.....maybe some gaffer tape will do the job

Generally speaking from experience, not likely.

Let me tell you how I smuggled my 500mmf4 home a few years back:

I left it in the car boot till midnight than carry it into the house when all asleep. Then realised dry cabinet too small. So hide it deep inside the storeroom. Next few days make alot of noise about the faulty dry cabinet, than get a bigger one. Next quietly hide the 500mm lens in dry cabinet. Next, tactical movement for a few months to bring the lens in and out of the house. After 6 months my wife notice the lens and asked, "where does this big thing comes from". My answer was "it's been then all the time you never notice meh? ask you take up photography you don't want now ask so many questions? kekekekeke.

Disclaimer: I guess this may not be applicable to newly wed honeymoon stage couples.

I am unsure what it means, but there is a boost mode fro ISO 100...:dunno:

Looks like the FF naysayers now have to eat their words :P

On a more serious front, does anyone know:

1. Whether we can switch to FX and DX at choice (ie I can select DX even when using a FF lens), or it only works automatically.

2. Does the D3 have sensor cleaning? I see it on the D300 but no mention on the D3.

Since official announcement (about 4-hrs ago), we have 4 ex-equivalents on sale in the BS forums...

2 DX2 and 2 D200...

at this rate...

Also I notice that the D300 can flash sync up to 1/320, but the D3 only 1/250.

There seems to be some features the D300 has that the D3 does not.

There is a choice of FX, DX and a 5:4 aspect crop for portraiture (8x10) and you can select manually.

DX will automatically be selected when a DX lens is mounted. Don't think D3 has sensor cleaning.

Yes

Not mentioned for D3 so I assume it's a no.

Its not mentioned, but I think it can be selected by user since they have a 5:4 mode too. And it should be auto once you mount a DX lens....I hope:)

Base ISO is 200, but it is able to reduce sensitivity probably with no improvement in noise performance if you switch to the Lo-1 mode to get ISO100.

Does she read this forum? ;p

Aw shucks, so far the D3 lacking features compared to the D300 is sensor cleaning and lower flash sync (and pop up flash for those who use it).

Any other features?

Now the toss up between the D3 and the D300...

I like the D3's low MP count...it was something I was waiting for for a very long time....and I had predicted the D3h would be 6MP, seems like this is somewhere in between (5MP with DX format).

Good enough for me :)

Then what is the perk of seting to his?

I waiting to see the photos!!! I have a feeling that the CMOS with EXPEED combination will wipe the noise advantage of Canon's sensor out.

Nikon has also up their AF which, IMO, was a strength of Canon's.

Let's see...

BC

Heheh very intresting story :) hehe.

At that time, did you have any other monster size lenses?

Generally speaking from experience, not likely.

I'm going to wait for RG's review. He was a Nikon shooter, then Canon. Should provide a more balanced review. It will be interesting to see how the D3 autofocus holds up in sports/action, compared to MkIII and MkIIn.
RG has already pointed out a potential shortcoming of the D3 in that the raw buffer is relatively small. Hopefully NSC can do a buffer memory upgrade ala D1X.

Decided, so can order liao....:bsmilie:

If you got money... the easier way is to buy your wife a 1 carat diamond... with roses and chocolates, and take her out for a nice romantic dinner... ;)
