I think the star buy is the D300 - basically you take a D2Xs, put it in a camera that is smaller, has a better AF system, has the same number of MP but shoots at a faster rate, has better high ISO noise, but costs less than half the price.

I actually hope the D300 will be a cheaper FF in order to kick more butt. Too bad it is still a DX.

But is a still very impressive with 51-point Multi-CAM 3500DX; which really out perform not only to the D200 but also D2Xs.Also with the new Image processor suppose to give you shocking Noise control at higher ISO, i wonder who will buy a D2Xs while you can get the D300 at less than $3K. :bigeyes:

I've to disagreed.
Based on past experience,
a D1X image raw image is still better than a D100, D70, etc.
a D2X image raw image is still better than D200 and D1X AF is still faster than D200, as such I suspect that the D2x or D2xS raw image will be still better than a D300 or at least the AF cam system and other features will still be it better than D300 except for weight.

Not this round...cos there is a new new Image processor in town & also the 51-point Multi-CAM 3500DX.

D2xs is faster than D200 cos D200 is using CAM1000 which is a old tech from F100. But the new D300 is arm with the latest CAM3500DX, same with the new D3. :bsmilie:

Nice innovative FX feature Allows current DSLR users to use DX lenses for smaller prints and also encourage them to buy the "normal" lenses to take full advantage of the bigger sensor ;p

Yup, most important is how good is the new Image processor able to reduce noise at higher ISO & yet produce better colour & DR image.

If can have better noise control than Canon & yet produce the same kind of colour & DR like Fuji SCCD, then it really can kick butts. Lets hope finally after all this years of wating, we can have best of both world from Nikon.:bsmilie:

i suspect the spec. might be wrong. How could a lower grade D300 have sensor cleaning feature while the D3 dont? it really surprise me.:dunno:

how about just 1 less item to that can go wrong in the D3? or they cant fit it into the design? to cut power consumption? whatever the reason is, it is a non priority, doesnt bother if it is there or not.

I believe that like the D2 legacy, D3 will not stop at just D3. Soon D3x...D3xs will follow suit... If I intend to get the D3 series, I'll hold out for the upgrades rather than buying the D3first.

From the specs, it seemed that other than full frame, higher burst rate, dual CF slots and some other features, the diff between D3 and D300 is very little. It is from there that I presume D3 will expand, maybe more MP or something like dat.

For me, D300 ROCKS! It is much better than 40D IMHO!!! 51 AF Points!!!! 3 inch 922k resolution LCD and up to 8fps...WOW! Sure will eat battery life like mad;p
