Hi guys, a question. Are Panasonic lens the only alternate ones that can be used with the Pen E? What about Sigma's? Heh heh f1.4 here I come...

My LX3 is a goner once I can determine how flexible I can be with lenses

with the adaptor from Panasonic or Olympus, any lens with a four thirds mount can be mounted onto the adaptor and then onto the body of the micro four thirds,in short, the Sigma lenses also can be mounted on the E-P1,Panasonic lens are the only alternative to date that can be mounted without an adaptor, provided it is a micro four thirds mount

currently only Olympus and Panasonic has delicate lens for m4/3, however, there is still 4/3 mount lens available using together with adapter for m4/3 system. AF still available on 4/3 lens.

Ofcuz Sigma have 4/3 mount lens as well. so It shd works.

Camera handling has always been "left hand balance, right hand fire". Traditionally, that is. The introduction of ergonomics for the right hand allowed a better grip for stability, but that does not mean that the right hand now grips the camera totally. Only scenario I see that the E-P1 has a disadvantage is where one wants to use wireless flash set up and have to try and balance with a 12-60 fitted with MMF-1 into the E-P1 and hand holding a FL-50R at the same time. That would be a tricky balancing act.

Otherwise, even when using a 35-100mm lens with the E-P1 via MMF-1, you still cradle the set up with your left hand (and finding the sweet spot to balance on your left hand) and shooting and controlling the camera with your right. That way has proven to eliminate shake since... long time ago...

I guess only with light lenses, or m43 lenses, that is where the E-P1 is a "one hand operation" set up.

Anyway, for a larger set up, I will go back to my E-3.

But E-P1 doesn't support wireless flash now, isn't it?

So far only only Panasonic and Olympus have m43 lenses but there's rumors that Leica will be releasing special m43 lenses, albeit very expensive ones, under an agreement with Panasonic between Nov 09 and Mar 10.

However most Four Thirds lenses are supposed to work ie autofocus on the E-P1 with the FT to m43 adapter. Maybe the Four Thirds lenses from Sigma might work too. Have to try it out to confirm though.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I keep thinking that this is a PnS because of the size, heh. Am I correct to say that if I want to do closeups I would need a macro lens? I doubt the kit lens would have much macro ability?

Hmm, I guess so... Closeup can, macro maybe not...

yes.. U will still need a Macro or close up filter. Please note that EP-1 is not a P&S camera.

Just a funny story to share with you guys... I showed my gf some pictures of the E-P1 cos I thought it was a good looking camera with a lot of potential (will personally wait till the end of the year for the supposedly higher spec version or the rumored penny with EVF). It turned out to be a HUGE mistake:bigeyes:! Now she is totally in love with the white ceramic E-P1 with the matching half case and she keeps bugging me to buy it for her!

Just a word of caution to everyone, don't anyhow show this camera to your wife/gf/partner cos they will all think its a prettiest thing they've ever seen even though they know nuts about photography. They won't care for the specs or the lens, they will want it cos it's pretty to look at. groan...:dunno:

Ha ha... I think that's more of an advantage for those of us who need approval to buy it...

Stick in an Olympus OM lens with an OM extension tube :-)

By the way, I am not familiar with the new Olympus lenses (as well as the EP-1 lenses). Do they focus at near distances like the OM lenses ? For example, 50mm at .45m, 24mm at .25m, etc. Thanks.

Depends.. But I feel most of the lenses do focus quite closely..

The 14-42mm can go 0.25m.

ZD 14-54mm - 0.22m.

ZD 12-60mm - 0.35m

Magnification counts too... :)

That's great then, thanks ... this is one feature I like with the Olympus lens, my Leica ones don't go as close.

Haha, no problem...

Zuiko Digital lenses are indeed legendary.. :)

Am I missing something? why macro cannot?

../azul123

There's a difference between macro and closeup no? :)

I believe the kit lens can't compare to some P&S's macro mode.. They go really close and big.. :bsmilie:

True 1:1 magnification with focussing distance less than 25cm cannot since the 14-42mm is not a macro lens.
To take true macro, would have to use the ZD 50mm f/2.0 or 35mm f/3.5 macro lenses with the Four Thirds Adapter MMF-1.
