I just don't see whats so difficult to just ask the students to turn up at the venue and let the large volume of them be 'soaked up' by the public transport system.

It may jam the train if the students join the general public and move into the into the cabin. At least it is organised and it is does not disrupt the service.
I support the move to better utilize the free/extra capacity during non peak hours.
The public transport system caters for more than this volume of commuter traffic in a day.
Esp so when the students would be coming from various places.

Although i know this is an independent school, schools are supposed to send kids on chartered transport to external events by right.

Because the school is still responsible for students' safety and attendance. It's still a school day and within class hours. Anything happen to any student whilst travelling to stadium, the school has to be responsible. That's why the school has to arrange transportation and ensure every student attends. I don't know how nerdy u were when u were a student, but if the school allows the students own time own target to arrive for the sport event, there will be some who will play truant and go somewhere else. And if something happens to any student, who going to answer?
Its certainly not the first time students travel somewhere by their own means for school events.
They are old enough to jalan Orchard Rd, they sure can make it to the stadium.
Those who want to take school transport, the school can also provide some with chartered bus catered for those opting in.
All in all, no need to be so special to me.
Save all the justfication and arguments that's happening now.
People probably started jumping off their seats when they saw 'The Best Is Yet To Be' flashing on the LCD displays!! How can!?!?!

Yes I like the banter, it is just for fun for me. But you are really cool about this. People often find it hard to lose an argument. Lol.
