Is this stifling SMRT's business initiatives?

I just don't see whats so difficult to just ask the students to turn up at the venue and let the large volume of them be 'soaked up' by the public transport system.

It may jam the train if the students join the general public and move into the into the cabin. At least it is organised and it is does not disrupt the service.

I support the move to better utilize the free/extra capacity during non peak hours.

The public transport system caters for more than this volume of commuter traffic in a day.
Esp so when the students would be coming from various places.

Actually no, the students and staff members would probably have to come from the school, as it was a school day and the movement occurred at 1.15 pm. Can't remember if all 3000 people were students and staff members though..

But some may take bus, some may take train, some may take taxi.. I guess it depends on whether one thinks that the school should bother to make arrangements for what is deemed to be a school event.

Although i know this is an independent school, schools are supposed to send kids on chartered transport to external events by right.

Its certainly not the first time students travel somewhere by their own means for school events.
They are old enough to jalan Orchard Rd, they sure can make it to the stadium. :)

Those who want to take school transport, the school can also provide some with chartered bus catered for those opting in.

All in all, no need to be so special to me.
Save all the justfication and arguments that's happening now.

Because the school is still responsible for students' safety and attendance. It's still a school day and within class hours.

Anything happen to any student whilst travelling to stadium, the school has to be responsible.

That's why the school has to arrange transportation and ensure every student attends.

I don't know how nerdy u were when u were a student, but if the school allows the students own time own target to arrive for the sport event, there will be some who will play truant and go somewhere else.

And if something happens to any student, who going to answer?

Yes. Just to add on, even if outside of curriculum hours, the idea is that as long as the children are in the care of the school, the school is responsible for their safety.

Where they go after school and outside of school control, is their own business. So be it they can jalan orchard road or not, or if some cannot even jalan to the ntuc opposite their house, is not the key point. The main thing is that as long as they are under the school's care, they are supposed to be sent to their destination by the means of chartered transport.

But yeah, i think you've really said most of what i would have said. :)

Bro, it's taken as a school event. You can look at it as if it's a mass excursion. For which transport will always be provided for all teachers and students involved.

Certainly primary school students can make it to say Science Centre themselves etc. Ability is not an issue or concern here.

Perhaps it's not a common scenario to have the whole school supporting a sporting event. That is true.

People probably started jumping off their seats when they saw 'The Best Is Yet To Be' flashing on the LCD displays!! How can!?!?!

Steady. What money, power and influence can get you.

Overall, I don't see any big fuss about this.

Its not about elite or not. Any school or company can charter the trains so long as the price is right and all public safety and services are not affected.

Is is because some parents of other schools are jealous? Nothing to be jealous.

SMRT didn't say that they only do it for ACS (I). they are open to anyone.

If there are established guidlelines to this train chartering, then let SMRT run the show.

What does LTA want? Money?

I was not from your generation then. I walked to school when I was pri 1.
But my tolerance is more than some folks as can be seen from the response here.

Perhaps nowadays its mandatory to care more.
But secondary school students.
I do think they are well able to be more independent.

Its not as stiff a scenario as many here are putting it anyway.
Take own transport, or opt to take the school one (and book number of buses accordingly).
So those parents who are concerned or children too young, they opt for transport.
Those who are comfortable with giving their child more independence, or driving them there, etc will/can opt for the former.
Attendance taking takes care of late comers (as has been so since police wear bemudas).

'Something' can happen any time.
Just like the general public making this fuss over the whole incident :D

Yes I like the banter, it is just for fun for me. But you are really cool about this. People often find it hard to lose an argument. Lol.

Foxshade is nice guy

and +1 to ACS for taking the initiative to take a fricking train and LEADING the way for other schools in future (some with MRTs at their school doorsteps) (its a pretty sweaty uphill walk from ACSI to the Singapore Poly station)

Or would some of you feel better if their chauffers drove them in German comfort to the game instead so that the elite image can be preserved for future taunting ? See? End of this 'elitist' debate
