And to think I bought and sold three FA 50mm lenses... jeez, if I knew then what I know now, I'd have kept them... just like my Voightlander 125mm almost doubling in price... :embrass:

But wow, this is a HOT thread... fast and furious discussion... so bottomline is go with the FA 43mm Limited... in-between 35mm and 50mm in focal length and max aperture, plus metal build quality.

If you think Pentax lenses are over priced, here is the list from b&h (all prices are in USD, and don't tell me the FF or crop thing, we don't have FF cameras, and while you use these FF lenses on cropped cameras - which is true to many C/N users w/ cropped cameras, they are cropped):

Pentax DA14.2.8: $699.95
Nikon 14/2.8D: $1349.95
Canon 14/2.8USM II: $2100

Pentax DA12-24/4: $699.95
Nikon 12-24/4G: $949.95
Canon EF-S 10-22/3.5-4.5 USM: $739

Pentax DA*16-50/2.8: $749.95
Nikon 17-55/2.8G: $1359.95
Canon 17-55f/2.8: $1060

Pentax DA*50-135/2.8: $819.95
Nikon 70-200/2.8 VR:$2169
Canon 70-200/2.8 IS: $1899

Pentax DA*60-250/4: $1,199.95
Canon 70-200/4L IS: $1210

Pentax DFA100/2.8WR macro: $699.95
Nikon 105/2.8 VR macro: $789.95
Canon 100mm f/2.8L IS macro: $944

Pentax DA18-55WR:$149.95
Pentax DA50-200WR:$214.95
Any WR lens from C/N which is lower than $500?
....

If Pentax lenses are over priced, how about C/N ones?

Pentax DFA100/2.8WR macro: $699.95

I thought the WR version = S$890?

My 20 cents:

1. FA35 is already discontinued, so if you want one, you'll have to overpay a little bit. Same goes for everything else of value that are discontinued (how much would you pay for a classic 60's "Royce" )

2. FA50 is overpriced... to most of us. But to anyone who values a fast 50 more than you and me, it's still a good buy. To give some perspective, when I was starting out with primes, I thought FA31 was ridiculously expensive. But as I went about taking pictures, my needs changed and the virtues of FA31 have become appealing to me. The price is roughly the same but it's value to me has risen significantly. I now think that FA31 is a bargain.

Pentax DFA100/2.8WR macro: $699.95

That's taken from B&H, in USD. frankly, Pentax lenses pricing here in SG is practically good. :)

Actually I envy those who got the FA50mm 1.4 at US$200... :p

It's very small and nice...

Among all the Canons and Nikons,...I saw a guy with his girlfriend carrying at White Pentax K-x at Vivo yesterday - inside Pet Lovers Center.

Man, I must admit, it's totally eye catching and more attractive than I had imagine it to be.

It swept me off my feet,...

I admit those pentax lenses you listed are good priced in term of usage wise. I was wrong.

hmm, but some of them from C or N are different line of products, I mean Ls are equal to *s, and EFS to DA. it's unfair to compare to this way in terms of build cost (I agree same or similar in term of usage). not familiar with Nikon though. it seems pentax takes advantage of 2: body IS, and single APS-C line. products from SONY are not complete and not in same spec.

this is the reason kx popular, now o,p and s nex catching up, not the same system though
i personally prefer black though.

or cesspool... u should knw better to engage in a brand war:bsmilie:

Switched system to Canon awhile ago,
I'd still jump back to Pentax if they made a full frame.

The 35L offering here is like 2.2k, i can already get a rare & value-adding lens like the legendary 85 1.4 for it :(
.. and in-body IS !

But for anyone else i know of asking me to give an entry-level recommendation i'd tell them "K-x is bad at noise control, cause everyone just goes ooh-ooh-ahh-ahh over the funky colors."

I owned a K-x before. It was really a good dslr and i have taken very good photos with it. However i sold k-x for various reasons. there are not many lenses and accessories to choose from. I have been looking for tamron 17-50 and a good flash since May. Until now, none of the shop has stock yet. tamron 17-50 is such a popular lens. If local shops cant provide, the other lens will be much harder to buy. i waited and waited for really long and learned that i should change brand before i invest too much in pentax cameras. I am currently cameraless now. looking for canon/nikon as they provide the lens (esp for canon 70-200mm L), availability and support in forum. the bad thing is, its much more $x than Pentax, but i choose this path n i wont regret.

for hobby and amatures, pentax is good.

cannot find?

weird, ask OP la.

I disagree about 2 lenses.

7th: no WR option from Canon. (Not true, Canon 100mm HIS f2.8L Macro is weather sealed too, so here is your WR. So FW is right comparing to this lens at $944)

Canon and Nikon lens will mostly be more expensive because of the IS/VR in the lens. Costs money to make you know.

there are not many lenses and accessories to choose from.

then why am i having such a hard time keeping to my budget

any lens i want is seemingly just a few weeks away, courtesy of Mr Quek, and i've lost count of the other barang barang i've bought either from ebay or mass sale or buy / sell...

you should think it this way: there are * lenses for pentax, similar to L for canon. and not many stars out there, and it may take more months to wait. just by counting in B&S posts of the Ls and *s sales in past 2010. now justified for your change?
I would not go cameraless: no buy in, no sell out. and i would compare 2 before make a choice. if budget is an issue for you, stay with kx with 2-3 lenses should save you $$ actually. 1 or 2 zoom + 1-2 prime then focus on shooting.

I had a K10d with 50mm 1.4 ($330 ONLY !!!! Sold it for $250!!!). Accidentally damaged the K10d it, sold it off, took it as a chance to exit pentax.

After looking at Kx and its super attractive pricing, I bought a Kx and 50mm KA F1.7 manual focus.

To me, the joys of pentax is to use cheap MF gems like the 50mm 1.7 ! Absolutely fantastic. Will start a thread with a sample shot if i have time!

If the newer AF lenses are too ex.... go for the old MF ones which are just as good...

Why not you add it to shopping cart and see the price yourself? It's 749 in the cart!

Why not include the prices of those so called Sony-Zeiss lenses? :bsmilie:

BTW, the price for FA50/1.4 has been $546 at SLR Rev. for all these days/months, and still is this price as I checked today. Whatever MS Color is asking for is purely their own act. If you want to buy a FA50/1.4, you know where to go, right?
