well well well...
I think the pros here don't empathise with non-pros getting little for their 2nd hand stuff.

Must be cos by the time they wanna upgrade equipment, they already covered their cost for their old equipment. Plus they really max out the use of their equipment.
So of course pros don't feel the same way as hobbyists.

Lesson to learn here is don't expect too much from the pros.

a bit hard to understand what you are protraying....

Where did that come from?? I do not think there is a need to start a war here.
sommersby, its better that you go buy/sell section & find out for yourself & decide on the price you are happy to part with your D70.

I do not find this thread relevant here though it may have a Nikon D70, move to KPT

brother, I don't think you should compare Camera like you compare a handphone. Camera is a piece of art and can be use for a pretty long time. In fact some of the camera produce a better quality picture as it age. D70 is definitely not out of date and it is better than some of the new camera that just came out recently. What would be a reasonable price to sell? Honest opinion.
Its a piece of art, YES. But only if its a film camera. ;) Classic pieces that will never die retain their value slightly longer than digital bodies.

The depreciation rate of digital bodies go down very, very fast. Thanks to the effort of ur favourite camera manufacturer that churns out new digital bodies like once every 2 years or even faster to keep up with the demand of the market ranging from professional photographers, ameuters, hobbyists, techno-wannabes, photographer wannabes, etc.

If u're looking at anything over $1000 for ur D70 (not the D70s). Might be hard.

You will not be able to talk up the price of your D70 just by touting its merits. You are the contradictory factor - because you upgraded to a D200. And especially since there is a D70s out there now. You will definitely not get near the price you paid, you will definitely not get near the price people pay for a new D70s, and you probably cannot get much higher than a brand-new D50 (probably same price as).

Everyone would like to buy something at as low a price as possible, and sell at as high a price at possible, thereby minimizing loss. Now you're on the selling end, you hope for as high a price as you would like, but your prospective buyer would be looking at buying as cheap as he can get for a given model, and he would be comparing his cash outlay against the alternatives he can obtain.

Put yourself in the buyer's shoes if you sincerely want to sell the camera, otherwise, keep asking for the price you want, and hope that a fool comes along, since as they say, one is born every minute.

so many people selling D70 or D70s in buy and sell now,
Hard to sell? it depends how much you willing to let go..
More and more people will let go D70,D70s in next few months, so buyers have more picks.

Is D100 better than D70, I have not use a D100 before. Is it true that D70 is better than D100 as I've heard some of my friend said.
Are you friends own both?
FYI, I own D70, D100 and D200.
Now I'm still shooting with D100 as main camera.

1) buyer want to buy low.
2) seller want to sell high.
3) consumer product value drop very fast

ask yourself, how much will u be willing to buy a used D70 now?

my suggestions.
1) put a low starting bid and let people bid for your D70, state your reserve price.
2) put your item in as much buy and sell forum (eg. clubsnap, hwz, yahoo classified, etc)
from all the bidding, you will have a realistic gauge on the price that ppl is willing to pay.

after the bidding end, most probably it will not hit your reserve price.
now comes the hard part, are u willing to sell to the highest bidder (most probably far from your reserve price)?

your options :
1) just sell it to get some money back, knowing that this is probably the best price your item can fetch.
2) re-list the item for sale (maybe next week/2 weeks later/1 month later) hoping for a higher bid next time. bear in mind that the longer u sell, the more value it dropped.
3) just keep the camera or give it to somebody else.

yalor, funny leh. How to compare a older model of Mercedes 300 to a newer model of Mercedes 160?

Maybe sell at $500, based on the theory that consumer gadget value drop by half after 1 year use.

I would be happy to consider whatever camera equipment that you are selling ....... :D

Hi, just need some advise in selling camera. I have a D70 for sale but it seems like nobody is interested in D70. I just bought my new D200 and decided to give up my D70 for a reasonable price and I don't know how much to price it. I am selling my D70 with the DX len, remote control, battery, charger etc....except for the CF memory card. The camera is in excellent condition, kept in dry box, and frequent maintainence.

Can anyone advise me what price is it reasonable to sell?

R u from MCS?;)

i keep it as is my first DSLR probably modify into infra

You are right that I am from MCS. Thanks for all the advise. This is my first time selling my camera so I do not know the resale value. I had been approached by an interested buyer who seems very sincere in getting my camera so I had offered $900 for everything including the len. Thanks for all your advise. Hope the price is good.

gd luck in ur sale!
