I buy my B+Ws from CP cos i dun really trust shops such as OP.

Sorry , a bit off topic here :
Are the rest of the other brand (Hoya etc) filters that OP is selling also of a different grade and quality compared to what is available from CP, Lords etc? Reason being :

1) I noticed that the quality of the packing is not as good. I bought one Hoya Pro series from Lords and the way the filter is packed in the case is more secure than what I see of the Hoya Pros that I see in OP. Packaging for the stock in OP is also a bit yellowish and old looking.

2) On a Hoya HMC filter I bought from them (OP) , the metal strip on the interior of the ring holding the glass in place popped out when I first opened the package. That being said, the price was pretty cheap.

So if B+W filters they carry are for the China market, would it be the same case for Hoya etc?

mind ...how much u pay for hoya hmc n Pro1 D i assume...size?

sorry for side track..

Lords (what i can remember...) :
Hoya HMC 72mm ~ $30+

Hoya Pro1 D 52mm ~$40+ (I think)

OP:
Hoya HMC 62mm $17 (that seems pretty cheap to me!)

for Pro1D, try AP SLS or MSC next time...:)

Buy from the usual (Long, tried & tested) suspects like AP, TK, MSC, Lords, CP etc.
Since these are quality filters, I would assume that they'll be for quality lenses.

IMO, some things can and should save, but since they are for higher end lenses, these costs for quality products should not be compromised.

Errrr...., I am using B+W filter on all my lenses because I value all my lenses.

I'm sure that there are people like you and me who value their lenses and all of them. But due to $$ constraints, some cannot afford B+W filters on all of their lenes. ;)

is there a website or review of performance with different filters? like they way they do for lenses, take different pics at different focal lengths/apertures of the same specs lenses (Nikon v/s Tamron v/s Sigma) to show a live comparison?? it'd be interesting to see the same for different filters, i.e. same UV or CPL filter but of different brands.

BTW, am using B+W too. :D

What a really strange move by Schneider to produce an exact same model with differing quality. Oh well. *shrug*

And of course, the case of the "self-cracking filter" which everyone finds so hard to believe, is still not solved; the TS has since gone MIA.

Whatever it is, I am still quite disturbed by the fact that a reputable company would have a business strategy like that.

it is a good business decision on their part to break into a new market.

Yes. But it should not have been with a same product name. If it remains confined to China, then well and good. The problem now is that those "lesser" products are now being re-sold in other places. i.e. Singapore. And frankly speaking, if not for this thread, I would not have known that there is a significant difference in quality, since it is supposed to be the same product.

Things in China is never able to be confined. Thats the scary part. But to get such a reputable filter its better rely on a better reseller.

PS: Everything can be fabricate easily. Once tested you know the different.

dont be surprise that these second grade filter might be make in china too.

If that quality means only for China market, OP is guilty to bring it out from China, and sell it at no much different price for their own profit.

Is the box contain word "Only for China Market"?

why do branded companies not proudly declare in bold on front of their packs "MADE IN CHINA"!!?? Let consumers decide and take a judgment call on their items, after all we pay good dosh for these items! on the contrary they tend to hide it or even better not make a mention of it which is clearly indicative of their own guilty conscience that China products may not be of the same quality levels as their other counterparts. :o

Bought a very reputed international brand "P******" DVD player sometime ago, was shocked to find "Made in China" written in a foreign language on the under in like super microscopic size that too. As good luck would have it knew someone who knew the language and they translated it for me!! That is super shifty work & dodgy attitude!

I think my b+w filter from CP (not OP) has the words 'Made in Germany' at the ring. Quite large font too :P Can anyone confirm what it says for the b+w filter from OP?

Anyway, I don't think any reputable company would lie about where it's made.
