Glass can be weakened if there are impurities in it and crack easily.
I'd just hazard a chance and write to them to tell them about it and ask for a replacement. It's a long shot, but e-mails cost you nothing besides 5 min of your time.

As TMC has mentioned, the B+Ws at OP are actually meant for China where they may not want to pay so much for the original solidly-made MRCs. Dun be mistaken, the OPs B+Ws are MRCs too but are lighter and are not brass rings. Pay a few more bucks and get the solid original ones from TK Foto.
The info was from a rep @ Schneider and pls note that the ones at OP are the REAL stuff as well, just that they are not made to the standards of the more expensive versions.

Well, I trust my regular shop 101%. There has never (AFAIK) been a bad word about this shop. Best thing would be to bring down a MRC bought from Cathay or TK Foto to OP and compare with the aluminium rings. It has been made known to me that there is a noticeable weight difference.

Actually, they are not much lower and comparable to CP except they seem to always have ready stock of filters which usually CP will need time to order....

Are the rest of the other brand (Hoya etc) filters that OP is selling also of a different grade and quality compared to what is available from CP, Lords etc? Reason being :
1) I noticed that the quality of the packing is not as good. I bought one Hoya Pro series from Lords and the way the filter is packed in the case is more secure than what I see of the Hoya Pros that I see in OP. Packaging for the stock in OP is also a bit yellowish and old looking.
2) On a Hoya HMC filter I bought from them (OP) , the metal strip on the interior of the ring holding the glass in place popped out when I first opened the package. That being said, the price was pretty cheap.
So if B+W filters they carry are for the China market, would it be the same case for Hoya etc?

for no 2, im not sure, but as far as im concern two of my 77mm HMC UV also have its ring pop up after using it for some time (roughly 9mths). And they are bought from MS and AP seperately. :sweat:
After that I changed straight to Marumi. :sweatsm:
the B+W from OP was said to have a color when compared to one from my trusted shop. There wasnt much of a price diff as well. Best is do a comparison when buying.
