Wow I like yours better, more colour like. Will try some post processing next time. Thanks. :)

Need some post processing to bring out the colours. Try it with your other pics.

How do you all post process the IR photo to get it to become colour ??.
I don't use PS but I checked out what teerex did to mine but could not get the desired result. It always seems monochrome. Could not get the sky to be as blue. BTW what is channel swap ?. I checked PS ver 7 there is a Channel Mixer. Is that what you all use ?. :dunno:

Channel mixer is used for Channel swap. What you do is swap the red and blue channels.

After you open your picture, do a Auto Level then :-
- Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Channel Mixer

- Click on "OK" when asked for new layer name

- Channel Mixer will open

- You should see Output Channel as 'RED', adjust the Red Channel Slider from 100% to 0%. Blue Channel Slider from 0% to 100%

- Then go up to Output Channel click on the arrow and select Blue as the output channel

- Adjust Red Channel Slider from 0% to 100%, then Blue Channel Slider from 100% to 0%

You will now see the sky to be blue and some colors in your picture. You can compare the before and after by clicking on the 'Preview' button in the Channel mixer window.

Satisfied with what you've got? Then go to Layers > Flatten Image. You can now save your picture as .jpg. If you do not Flatten Image and save it will save as .psd file.

Hope this helps you Dennis? BTW any confirmation from you to PandaOng about the meetup?

Thanks teerex, I got it. Now to try to map the workflow to ACDSee that I am using more often. As for meetup I may have a problem as it is at an inconvenient time. I will try to make it for a short time but may have to leave early. Thanks again.

You're welcome.
Hope you have lots of fun playing with your new acquisition. :)
Do post your IR pics for us to enjoy when you are ready.

More IR using what teerex had taught me on channel swapping and some post processing. All shots handheld and blind. :)

Nice work Dennis, you've got the colours of the sky and clouds in.
Now you should learn not to shoot "blind" anymore. Get your focus and shoot with a tripod with smaller aperture to get a better DOF.

i can't join u all tomorrow... gotta work....sigh.... hope to join u all next time

Just got my R72 this evening....trying to shoot something but all turn out Black Black.....it is because of low lighting?? tried with 30" exposure still "OrR OrR"....must try first thing in the morning....anyway, hope to learn more!!!

Yesterday's test shot at CP...hee... but indoor.... but somehow i feel quite different from the IR shots i see here....hmmm....wonder why

IR photography is only possible in broad daylight, the sunnier the better. So try again tomorrow outdoors. ;)

I have never succeeded in doing IR photography indoors even with my Coolpix 950 nor have I ever seen any IR images taken indoors posted on the internet.

It is probably not possible to take true IR pics indoors. What you got might with the Sony F828 at CP might be just the Sony defaulting to nightshot mode.

I have also read on the internet that the F828 has a problem with IR photography because unlike the 707 and 717 (which are supposed to be great for IR photography) it has an additional Cyan colour layer. Maybe you would like to try again tomorrow under sunny conditions outdoors and let us know if it's really true what they say. :dunno:

What is the exposure/setting for your singtel shot?? I read that at F8 ISO1600...sometime needs about 15" Shutter Speed. is it true??

wow..if based on normal sunny day, @ ISO 100, F8, 1/125.....that will be 15 stops away?? :dunno: :dunno:

heehee too anxious already. can't wait to try it out tomolo..

It was taken at 30s, f/8.0, ISO 800. It was quite gloomy and not sunny at all. With full sun out, 20s would probably be sufficient for f/8.0 at ISO 800. I would suggest you try to take at ISO 400 first if possible because there is less noise. You would probably need 25 to 30s at f/8.0, ISO 400.

Yes yes master. Will open my eye next time. But too lazy leh. :bsmilie:

Why ???. 8400 is still a very good and capable camera. I intend to keep it until somebody comes out with a 20mm one. :bsmilie:
I just have not try it with IR yet. It should be every bit as good. I just lazy you know. Maybe easier to use as you will need to mount the camera on a tripot to get really nice and sharp shot. With a 8400 it would be easier to do that. Maybe we should get together one day and shoot with the 8400 on IR and others.
