I am no photographer so to speak, but even so, I am wondering about a different camera.
The S602 is a nice little camera; I have some good happy snaps from it :)

Here is the info from the EXIF
Shutter speed 3sec
Aperture F9.0
ISO 200
White Bal Custom2
Focus Auto (before IR filter)
Meter Mode Average
Image Size 2048x1536

The wind was blowing at the time. My pre focus was on the trees to the right
of the building. Not on the closest side of the building.

Oh I did a simple Auto level and minor colour mix in PS

Any suggestions :dunno:

Thanks teerex.

erm.... once there was this so called "SEE THRU" filter for sony cams.... i believe its an IR filter rite? same usage?

i wanna try it on my d1x.... dunno can a not... coz 'm kinda confused....
is it i just put a r72 filter over my lens... then i can use it to do as IR?

Went to CP n tested R72 on my 828.... but seems like the effect is see is like normal nightvision shot....hmmmm

Just got my R72 and ready to go.
Interesting filter, camera seems to be able to focus and have handholdable shutter speed despite I not being able to see the object. Will need some experimenting and help from fellow IR pro.

So wind was the culprit for the blurred foliage. The S602 is a good camera. Like some say, it's not the camera, it's the one behind the camera that matters.

Try again, with F9 there should be relatively good DOF. Wait for wind to stop blowing.

Can post your (unprocessed) out of cam picture?

I'm no expert, but sharing what little knowledge I have with IR.

Just putting the IR filter over the lens will not be able to give you the effect that you see posted here.
You first need to do a custom white balance preset with the IR filter on.

Which of your 3 cameras did you put your filter on? Since it can focus and have handholdable shutter speed, shoot a few shots and see the results.

If you're going to use it on the D70, I would suggest that you set your AE/AF button to AF only in the menu. Focus without the filter on, press AF lock button to keep focus, then fix filter onto lens and half press shutter for AE with the filter on, then shoot. Try this method and see if there's any difference when you put the filter on, focus and shoot. This is if you're not using manual mode. Don't forget to preset your WB first.

Happy shooting.

Tried it on the D70, it was just a put on and shoot on the light, pic all red nothing much to see. Thanks for the suggestion, will try again with more sun light tomorrow.

Pic all red is because you did not preset your white balance.

Preset the WB by having the filter on, set WB to preset, point to a brightly patch of grass and shoot. If preset successful, your display will show "good".
Then you will be able to shoot IR with the filter.

Thanks again will definitely try tomorrow when the sun is out.

From the EXIF info, it looks like the S602 is not that good for IR photography for a P&S digicam. The exposure time of 3s at ISO 200 is a bit too long for a digicam and not handholdable.

If you want to change digicam, try to get a second-hand Olympus 2020 (the best for IR from what I read), Canon G1 (next best), G2 or G3, Nikon Coolpix 950 (what I have), Sony 707 or 717. Some of these used 2-3 Mp digicams should be available real cheap since they are totally obsolete by now.

You can frame the shots directly on the LCD easily with these digicams and the exposure time is so fast under bright sunlight that you can get very sharp images with no wind blurring problems.

Could not resist, sun is out. Here is what I got shooting out of my window after WB setting. Did not remove the filter to focus and shoot straight in P mode. handheld at 1/2 sec. Just to test colour balance.

More shots, still shooting blind. Too lazy to remove filter, focus and attache filter. Done blind as I can't see the object so just shoot and see from LCD screen afterwards, don't like it shoot again. The beauty of digital !!. ;)
Don't think I got the WB correct yet but is slowly getting the hang of it.
Will find better subject to shoot the next time.

You're getting the hang of it Dennis. Took your shot, did auto levels, channel swapping and slight USM. Here it is:-

wow dennis...nice one!

did u take this on your 8400 or d70?

Wow I like yours better, more colour like. Will try some post processing next time. Thanks. :)

This was take with the D70. I think will be difficult to take with the 8400 because I will have to hold the filter in front as this one is a 62mm size. It fit my Sigma 18-125mm lens and I just screw it in and shoot blind like normal. Will probably try with 8400 next time.

Today was a rather gloomy day but I wanted to try out the 20D and the 28-135mm IS and 18-55mm kit lenses' IR performance under such conditions. All taken from the balcony of my flat and post-processed to 2 different colour IR schemes.

EF 28-135mm IS

EFs 18-55mm

Seems like the 28-135mm IS is a better lens for IR as there was no hot spot in the photo compared to that taken by the 18-55mm kit lens.

Also, under gloomy lighting conditions, the colours produced in the first scheme are not so pronounced as those pics taken under bright sunny conditions.
