On MC at home, did some test on the ELP filters.
Take note that not all PP are the same. See original for comparisons.

Here are my results:

Hi Ark19,

Very interesting results.

Thank you for taking the time and trouble to present the comparisons.

I think the R72 is the one for me

Cheers

No Prob Pablo,
Actually the result of the 2xELP looks very similar.
Cost wise, it's much cheaper than R72, so I'll think alot of guys will be interested to use it ;)

When you see thru 2xELP with ur eyes, it looks like a red filter.

I've sent my other piece of ELP for cutting.
Hope to show more results of 2xELP soon.... :)

Hi Ark19, what happen to your back, carry too much photographic stuff ??.
Better watch it.
I still like the R72 better, the 2 x ELP is also interesting. Maybe should get another pcs of ELP to glue it to my current home made one. Still cheaper than a 77mm R72. Anybody got red filter to try with ELP. maybe 1 red and 1 ELP will do the trick. Also maybe can try with WB settings to alter the colour to be more IR.

No lah, old prob.
Thanks ;)

Yar, agree that R72 effects are better.
I've sent mine (3" ELP) for cutting. Will try to fit 2 into the same filter ring.
Tried asking 2 other optical shops if they can help to cut, but was rejected...
So went back to the same one, told them not urgent, so maybe ready in a week's time.

Actually found out that when I use kit lens fitted with uv+R72, have some slight vignetting. Still ok, can crop away...

I'm going to try to desaturate the blue channel and see what I get.

based on the low res pix, once I desaturate blue, there's almost nothing left of color...hmm

red blue swap then some channel mixing..

Hi cHiLiPaDi,
seems like R72 prices went up, when I bought my 52mm R72, it was only for abt $25. But that was a long time ago...

As a guide, Vortex and I just bought 67mm R72 for $80.

Perhaps you can call up other shops to compare prices?

if u do intend to shoot IR already....get the R72 filter first then. PL filters u can get anywhere in the world. plus u dont really need it for shooting IR anyways. UV get a cheap one to use it as a guard only. since its on adaptor...i also think no need.

so IR all the way!!!!

well.....if weather is good on the 16th....we can have an informal one as well

I'm starting the MO officially. based on ark19's output, I think IR enough..

*cos I check hoya R72 77mm (if I go use efs10-22), is US139 argh...

I'd like to conclude this on friday.

Based on this pricing.
3" Dia. ELP Item 43950 S$22.88
4" x 5" ELP Item 43954 S$28.38

1) loupgarou for 43954 x 3 , S$28.38 x 3 = S$85.14
2) eawtan for 43950 x 4 = S$22.88 x 4 = S$91.52

A simple (but not extensive) check is to use your TV remote control. Point it at your lens and press the buttons on the remote. Take a few photos or if you have lcd preview, you should be able to see visible light from the remote transmitter.

If you do see the "light", it only shows that there is a possiblity for your camera to shoot in IR.

The best way is probably getting hold of an IR filter to test. You can go down to the IR outings and test it out there (I'm sure the kind souls there would be willing to let you test it out). :D

A HOYA R72 (77mm) costs about S$240 at CP.
